Be Safe

"Be safe" is part of the Urban Dictionary as a statement of farewell. The Urban Dictionary is an online source started in 1999 to help us understand slang words and phrases. "Be safe" is a way to say goodbye and to stay out of trouble, especially with the law.

In his 1906 novel The Jungle, author Upton Sinclair warned of adulterated and unsanitary practices in the meat industry.  The uproar about food impurities prompted Congress to pass the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906. The act passed the United States House of Representatives with a vote of 240 for and 17 against. President Theodore Roosevelt signed the legislation on June 30, 1906. The act required drugs to meet purity standards, as well as be labeled with the active ingredients. 

‘Condition Blue: The Acoustics of Aquatics’ coming to Bluffton

BLUFFTON--“Condition Blue: The Acoustics of Aquatics,” a show from renowned contemporary ensemble CORDIS, comes to Bluffton University at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31 in Yoder Recital Hall. 

In partnership with National Geographic Society, CORDIS will perform on the world’s most creative collection of traditional and water-based instruments, set amidst breathtaking film and narration. The ensemble incorporates acoustic instruments, electronic sound generation and a visually striking presentation to actively engage the audience in experiencing and learning more about this valuable natural resource.

Rotary hosts Hardin County judge candidates

On October 11, the Ada Rotary Club hosted the two candidates for Hardin County Common Pleas Court Judge,. Maria Santo and Mark Schwemer.

November 1 Trivia Night at The Inn at ONU

On Tuesday, November 1 The Inn at ONU will host its first Trivia Night. The Inn will have drink specials and put your knowledge to the test.

Allen County investigating potential Salmonella outbreak

UPDATE: Out of an abundance of caution, Bluffton Baking Co. is recalling Pumpkin Pie Stuffed Cheesecake Cookies, which were sold from September 30-Oct. 4 in Hancock and Putnam County markets. If you purchased these cookies and please have some remaining, please do not consume.

Allen County Public Health (ACPH) is investigating a potential Salmonella outbreak affecting Allen, Putnam, and Hancock Counties. ACPH was notified by Hancock County regarding a multi-county Salmonella outbreak with illness onsets currently ranging from 10/1/2022 to 10/6/2022. As of October 11, 2022 Allen County has 1 confirmed case. Chances of other counties being affected is possible. 

Pre-Dawn White Light exhibit

Coming to the Elzay Gallery of Art: Pre-Dawn White Light by Michael Wille. The show runs from Oct. 18 through Dec. 9. An artist talk and gallery opening will be held Tuesday, Oct. 18, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Wilson Art Center.
