David E. Dearth was a member of the Ada HS class of 1977

David E. Dearth, age 53, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at his residence in Ada.

He was born on May 23, 1959 in Lima, Ohio to Samuel G. and Emma J. (Baldridge) Dearth, they preceded him in death.

David was a self-employed roofer. He was a graduate of Ada High School class of 1977. He was a social member of the Ada VFW Post #9381.

Surviving are a brother, Dean (Julie) Dearth of Roundhead; two sisters: Charlene (Rick) Hughes and Cheryl Dye both of Ada; Several nieces and nephews. It was his request to be cremated.

A Celebration of Life for David will begin at 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Ada VFW Post #9381

Stephen Douglas Clarkson memorial service in June

Stephen Douglas Clarkson, age 59, died on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 3:57 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health Systems, Lima, Ohio.

He was born on March 15, 1954 in Roanoke, VA. to William D. and Christine (Ferguson) Clarkson. His father and mother survive in Apex, N.C.

He attended the First United Methodist Church of Ada, Ohio. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. 

Surviving are a brother Mark (Michelle) Clarkson of Cary, N.C.; two sisters: Carol (Louis) Lobenhofer of Ada and Marsha Clarkson of Atlanta, Ga.; five nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for June 1 in North Carolina. Details will be available through family members.

Ada McDonald’s Restaurant offers tax day special

Jerry Lewis’ McDonald’s is giving people a break on tax day. Area locations will be offering a special promotion on Monday, April 15. Customers who buy one Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with Cheese can get a second for just 15 cents.

“Tax Relief Day is one more way we are bringing customers great value,” said Jerry Lewis, local McDonald’s owner. “Our customers look forward to the promotion every year.”

The promotion runs the entire day and is available at McDonald’s in Lima, Delphos, Van Wert, Beaverdam, Bluffton and Ada.

Joey Frank wins at number 1 singles and doubles

The Ohio Northern Men's Tennis team remained undefeated in the OAC with 9-0 win over Mount Union on Saturday afternoon at the University Courts.

The Polar Bears move to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the OAC, while the Raiders drop to 11-4 and 2-3 in the OAC.

Senior Joey Frank and junior Do Thai were victorious at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 win.

Freshman John Mostowy and junior Josh Saunders followed with an 8-5 win at the No. 2 doubles position.

The No. 3 tandem of sophomore Sam Prewitt and junior Blake Troller finished up the doubles sweep with a 9-7 win.

Cameron Johnson signs with Kitsap Pumas S.C. of USL Premier Development League

Ohio Northern men's soccer player Cameron Johnson has signed to play with Kitsap Pumas S.C. (Wash.) of the USL Premier Development League.

The league is the top-level amateur competition in the United State and features 62 teams competing in four conferences.

Kitsap Pumas S.C. won the 2011 USL Premier Development League title and will begin its season on May 4.

In his four seasons at ONU, Johnson scored 45 goals and recorded 113 points, which are both fourth most all-time in program history.
