Ohio EPA discontinues Air Quality Advisory on July 18

COLUMBUS, OH (July 18, 2023) - Due to improved air quality conditions throughout the state, Ohio EPA has cancelled the statewide Air Quality Advisory. Smoke from Canadian wildfires is now having less of an impact throughout the state. The most recent statewide advisory expired at end of day, Monday, July 17, 2023.

How sweet it is?

"How sweet it is" was a signature phrase of comedian and actor Jackie Gleason.  Born in Brooklyn, John Herbert Gleason became a success in several well-known shows such as The Honeymooners and The Jackie Gleason Show. His biography written by James Bacon was published in 1986. Jackie Gleason starred in several movies later in his life including The Hustler with Paul Newman and Smokey and Bandit with Burt Reynolds.

Programs on worm composting and growing cabbage, broccoli and kohlrabi

HARDIN COUNTY–The Hardin County OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers are hosting summer garden programs at the Friendship Gardens of Hardin County located at 960 W. Kohler Street in Kenton. The programs will continue with an event on “Worm Composting” on July 20, and another on “Growing Cabbage, Broccoli, and Kohlrabi” on August 17.

A great way to make the richest and cheapest compost for all your garden plants is to practice Worm Composting. Join Hardin County OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Kim Thomas on Thursday, July 20 from 6:00-7:00 pm for this educational program to enhance your garden’s soil.

Want to know the best techniques for growing cabbage, broccoli, and kohlrabi? Learn the tricks on how to grow these delicious vegetables, and tips on how to keep them pest and disease free. This program will be held Thursday, August 17 from 6:00-7:00 pm and will be presented by Hardin County OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Stewart Coats.

July 19 chamber meeting to feature United Way director, library director

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a July membership meeting on Wednesday, July 19 at 8:00 AM at the Ada Public Library.

Speakers will be Martha Nau with the United Way of Hardin County and Rhett Grant, Ada Public Library Director. 

Barbara Lois Hoyt worked for Continental Can

Barbara Lois Hoyt, age 80, of Lima, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at her home.  

She was born on September 11, 1942, to the late Merlin and Virginia Poe.
