Downtown Kenton program awards grants for roof repair and building revitalization

The Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance and the Kenton Historic Courthouse District (HCD) announces the 2023 Kenton Historic Courthouse District Downtown Building & Business Owners Association Downtown Improvement Grant Program award recipients. Brad Bailey has been awarded grants for roof repair and building revitalization. Not By Choice Outreach has been awarded a grant for building revitalization.

The Kenton Historic Courthouse District is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance. The purpose of this nonprofit corporation is supporting preservation and business in Kenton’s historic downtown. Recently, a Downtown Kenton Building and Business Owners’ Association (DBA) was created to offer grants to incentivize improvements and other worthy projects that enhance downtown Kenton.

APL book group to discuss Ordinary Grace

The Adult Book Group's next meeting at Ada Public Library has been rescheduled from Tuesday, September 5 to Tuesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m.

That means an extra week of reading time. Copies of Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger are still available (as of Aug 29) for those interested in joining the discussion.

Over half of Hardin Co. children are enrolled in Imagination Library

A reminder from the Ada Public Library:

Get FREE BOOKS for your child each month! Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails free high-quality, age appropriate books to children from birth to age five!

According to imaginationlibrary.com, there are 2,036 eligible children in Hardin County and 1,101 are enrolled.

PPK USA competition filled Dial-Roberson field

The August 26 Punt, Pass & Kick competition at Dial-Roberson Stadium was a demonstration of youthful energy and heart. Boys and girls ages 6-15, in the company of a small army of volunteers tested their football skills versus their peers. The winners in each age group for each skill category–punt, pass, kick, run and jump–will be given the opportunity to compete at a national competition in Las Vegas.

Ada girls soccer edged by Allen East

The visiting Ada High School girls soccer team rallied late but fell just short 5-4 to local rival Allen East in the Northwest Conference opener Monday night at Goodwin Field in Harrod.

Ada falls to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the NWC with their first defeat.

AE improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with the win.

“It was a very tough loss with a lot of bright spots,“ said Ada second-year head coach Doug Dewese. “We played the hardest yet this season and came up just a little short.

“I cannot be more proud of the effort put in by our ladies,” he emphasized. “Allen East has multiple scoring threats, so them putting five goals on us doesn’t surprise me. 

“I am just very happy that we kept pushing and playing until the clock read zeroes, and kept pace with them as far as scoring,” he continued.
