Hardin County Memorial Day ceremony to be held at 11 a.m. on May 30

The Hardin County Veterans’ Service Commission and Veteran Service Officer will be hosting a County Memorial Day Ceremony in Grove Cemetery at the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) veteran circle, which is located close to E. Franklin St./State Route 309 at 11:00 a.m., on May 30.

The guest speaker will be Fred Rush, Hardin County Commissioner. Organizers issue the invitation, saying, "Please join us so we, as a community, can remember and honor our fallen heroes this Memorial Day."

Spring Fever Follies and fundraiser reminder

The annual Spring Fever Follies concert at Ada High School concert will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20 in the auditorium.

All tickets are $5 cash at the door.

Performer flowers and detergent orders will also be available for purchase.

AHS teams ready to Strike Out Cancer on May 26

The Ada High School varsity baseball and softball teams will face off Thursday, May 26 in the first annual "Strike Out Cancer" benefit game. The event will  honor and raise funds to support two of Ada's own: JR Phipps and Erin Sizemore Robinson.

Event schedule:

5-5:45 p.m - Two contests open to all ages with no limit on entries:

  • Homerun Derby: $5 entry fee/5 balls
  • Fastest Pitch contest: $1 entry fee/3 balls

6:00 p.m. - Game between the Ada High School softball and baseball teams

The public is invited to fill the stands to cheer on Ada's high school players.

Fundraising opportunities:

Memorial Day service to be held at Woodlawn Cemetery

The Ream-McElroy Post 9381 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Foss-Agin-Meyer Post 185 of the American Legion will co-sponsor a Memorial Day service on May 30, 2022.

Ceremonies will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada, 5134 State Route 235.

The program will include:

Teens invited to HPD Archery Instruction, June 2

Teens are invited to join Hancock Parks District for Archery Instruction led by a certified archery instructor. All necessary equipment and targets will be provided.

Participants have the opportunity to learn the basics of archery along with safety measures, while shooting arrows at several targets with a compound bow.

LOCATION & REGISTRATION

Oakwoods Nature Preserve, Dold Lake. 6:30-7:30 PM. Ages 13-17. Register online at www.HancockParks.com with $10 per person by 4 PM on Thursday, June 2.
