Whether you are trying to have a baby or just thinking about it, informing yourself is a good first step. Here are three tips to get you started:

1) Visit Your Doctor

Do not wait until you become pregnant to visit your doctor. Before you become pregnant is the best time to speak with your doctor about any health conditions that can negatively affect your pregnancy.

Health conditions that can affect pregnancy include but are not limited to diabetes, high blood pressure, sexually transmitted infections and autoimmune conditions, including thyroid disorders.

Athletic trainer receives national award

Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center announced that Tom Lane, M. ED., AT, ATC, PTA, ITAT, will be awarded the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Athletic Trainer Service Award.

The Athletic Trainer Service Award recognizes National Athletic Trainers’ Association members for their contributions to the athletic training profession as a volunteer at the local and state levels. The Athletic Trainer Service award recipients have been involved in professional associations, community organizations, grassroots public relations efforts and service as a volunteer athletic trainer.

Enter to win a $50 gift certificate from Three Brothers Pizza

The Ada Icon invites viewers to enter their names for a $50 gift certificate from Three Brothers Pizza in Ada.

During July the Icon is the business featured in the Liberty National Bank lobby. There's free notepads and pencils and several photos showing residents featured this spring on the Icon.

The staff of Viva Maria Pizza and Pasta, 124 E. Buckeye, Ada, is enjoying a long Fourth of July week's vacation.

The restaurant is closed this week and will reopen with its regular hours on Friday, July 5.

Another biosimilar to Herceptin

FDA approves new drug that treats breast, stomach and esophageal cancer

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved another biosimilar to a drug that treats breast, stomach and esophageal cancer.

This biosimilar is called Kanjinti (trastuzumab-anns). The FDA approved it because it appeared to have no meaningful differences from Herceptin (trastuzumab), which has already been approved.

If a drug is a biosimilar to another drug, that means it is nearly identical to the other drug (called the reference product). According to the FDA's recent approval, Kanjinti is a biosimilar to Herceptin.

If you don't give an honest answer when your doctor asks you how much you exercise, you're not alone. Many people don't tell the truth to their doctors, according to a new study.

Unfortunately, withholding or misrepresenting information to your doctor hinders his or her ability to give you optimal care. Still, 60 to 80 percent of people surveyed in this new study said they had stretched the truth or withheld information with their doctors before.
