The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Major Pricks Tattoos & Piercings in Ada.

The event takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1 at 229 N. Main St.

Programs offered Monday, March 6 at the Plaza Inn Restaurant

HARDIN COUNTY– Some farmers have received a notice that their current  pesticide and/or fertilizer applicator licenses will expire at the end of March 2023 and that they  must complete their continuing education hours to renew before this date.

After March 1, registration fees increase

The Conservation Tillage & Technology Conference (CTC) will be held in- person March 14-15 at  Ohio Northern University in Ada. This year’s conference will feature David Hula, four-time winner of the National Corn Growers Association Yield Contest and current record holder at 616 bushels per acre–all accomplished with no-till and strip-till. His presentation has been made possible by sponsors Brandt Professional Agriculture, Calmer  Corn Heads, Pioneer Seeds, and Meristem Crop Performance. 

Have you witnessed an Ada area business, its owners, managers or employees making special contributions to the community? The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce has a prize for that. The chamber is currently seeking nominations for the Outstanding Business/Industry award to be presented at the March 15 annual meeting at The Inn at ONU.

The number of farms in Ohio in 2022 was 76,500, according to the USDA, NASS, Great Lakes Regional Office. Land in farms was 13.1 million acres, down 400,000 acres from last year. The average size farm in Ohio was 171 acres per farm, down 5 acres 2021. (See attached chart.)

The number of farms in the United States for 2022 is estimated at 2,002,700, down 9,350 farms from 2021. Total land in farms, at 893,400,000 acres, decreased 1,900,000 acres from 2021. The average farm size for 2022 is 446 acres, up from 445 acres the previous year.

The Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District is conducting a survey until February 28, inviting the public to provide feedback on ways to improve area parks.
