From New Leaf to Liberty Oaks, local family brings business to Ada

Driving by on State Route 235, the new Liberty Oaks venue for weddings and other events somewhat resembles the business formerly at this location, New Leaf Garden Center. Upon closer inspection, you can see that only the greenhouse is still there. The rest of the facility has been built from scratch as a much larger space for hosting events with catering and bar service, as well as outdoor weddings.

Men's Soccer falls 1-0 in double overtime
(November 18) MEDFORD, Mass. — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 16 Colorado College in double overtime on Saturday afternoon in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament on the campus of Tufts University. The loss brings the Polar Bears' 2023 season to a close.

Men's Basketball beats Kenyon 88-83
(November 18) ADA — Sophomore Will Miller (Ottoville) scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team to an 88-83 victory over Kenyon on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

Wrestling posts 3-1 record
(November 18) OLIVET, Mich. — The No. 13-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team posted a 3-1 record at the Olivet (Mich.) Duals on Saturday at The Cutler Event Center.

Summary of November 16 Ada School Board meeting

The Ada Board of Education held its November 16 regular meeting in the board chambers at 725 W North Ave. with all members present and 2024 board member Troy Erickson in the audience. All action items on the agenda were approved unanimously, including the 5-year financial forecast presented by fiscal officer Kim Light, a measure regarding authorization to levy taxes and acceptance of an HVAC improvement bid. I hope harvest has gone well for you since the previous edition of the Hardin County Agriculture and Natural Resources Update. Locally, most of the corn is now off, with about 20% still in the fields.

Candace A. “Candy” Henderson was a nurse

Candace A. “Candy” Henderson, age 78, of Ada, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. 

She was born on October 5, 1945 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Austin and Alice (Roberts) Neff. On March 4, 1972 Candy married George H. Henderson and he survives in Ada.
