Alger family loses home and contents to fire

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, the Alger Fire Department responded to a call for service just outside of the village on Township Rd. 92.

The fire destroyed a home and contents belonging to Steve and Angela Decker. The family was was not at home at the time of the fire. Animals belonging to the family were killed in the blaze.

In addition to the well-publicized race for U.S. president and vice president, Ada voters will have another 25 items to vote on in the November 5, 2024 general election.

Ada students compete in FFA job interview contest

On Thursday, October 31, five Ada FFA members competed in the Sub-District Job Interview Contest at Spencerville High School. The members that competed included Aidra Preston, Cayden Wise, Dailah Preston, Taylor Price, and Gavin Ridenour.

This was the first time the Ada chapter had all grade levels participating in this career development event (CDE). For the competition, they had to create a resume and cover letter, fill out a job application, conduct a personal interview and write a follow-up letter.

Aidra and Dailah Preston both placed second in their grade levels and will be moving on to districts on November 7.

Hardin County rainfall report for 2024 growing season

HARDIN COUNTY __ With the help of fifteen volunteer rainfall reporters, Ohio State University Extension in Hardin County has collected unofficial township rainfall data for the past thirty-two consecutive years. The 2024 growing season was challenging with the extended drought which led to crops maturing much earlier than normal this year.
