FROM BLUFFTON ICON - Registration for several Bluffton Family Recreation classes are now underway, according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

Youth soccer camp
The camp is for U-8 to U-15 boys and girls held from Monday to Thursday, June 17-21. Camp times are 10 a.m. to noon at Steinmetz Field on Harmon Road. Jared Byers, BHS girls’ varsity soccer coach, leads the camp. Cost: $20 members; $40 non-members.

Glow volleyball tournament
The tournament is Saturday, June 1, and is coed 6v6 indoors. Team fee is $75. Cash prizes are awarded.

10-year average is 1.92 inches for Hardin County

Liberty Township received 4.19 inches of rain from April 15 to 30, according to Phil Epley, who reports township rain received to the OSU extension office.

Extension rainfall reporters recorded an average of 4.08 inches of rain in Hardin County during that period.

Last year, the average rainfall for the same time period was 1.56 inches. Rainfall for the April 15-30 time period is 1.92 inches more than the 10-year average rainfall during the same dates.

Cessna Township received 5.08 inches for the April 15-30 time period, the most of any of the township sites.

Two Ada High School graduates were among 148 graduates awarded diplomas during the Defiance College 2019 commencement on May 4.

They are Noah Beach, cum laude, bachelor’s of science; and Sidney Faine, magna cum laude, bachelor’s of science.

Senior infielder Hailee Loughman (Brookville) has earned First-Team Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 accolades from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the 2019 softball season, the national office announced Thursday.

To be considered, student-athletes must be a sophomore-or-higher in academic standing, serve as a starter or important reserve player for their respective team, and have a 3.30 minimum cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale at their current institution. In addition, all nominees must have participated in 50 percent of the team's competitions at their designated position.

The Armes Family Cancer Care Center, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, has achieved a four-year accreditation for its radiation oncology department by meeting the standards of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Accreditation Program for Excellence (APEx).

The Armes Family Cancer Care Center achieved accreditation through APEx by undergoing a rigorous, voluntary, multi-step process during which its policies and procedures were evaluated using consensus-based standards for radiation oncology practice. 

ONU women’s lacrosse squad

The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse program landed a school record four student-athletes on the All-Ohio Athletic Conference squads for their efforts during the 2019 season, the league office announced Friday morning.

Junior Kelli Hill (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) headlined the selections after being named Second-Team All-OAC at the goalkeeper position.

Meanwhile, senior Emily Hershberger (Jackson Township/Jackson), junior Maddie Storr (Clarence, N.Y.), and sophomore Sydney Skelding (North Plainfield, N.J./Dublin) each garnered Honorable Mention kudos for their performances.
