LIMA - The Ada wrestling team finished 18th at the 19-team Lima Senior Spartan Invitational Saturday.

Mechanicsburg won the event with 297.5 points, finishing well ahead of second-place Monroe (190). The Bulldogs scored 41 points.

Ada placers by weight class division:
120: 
5th Colton Biederman. Junior Biederman went 3-2 with three pins and won his fifth-place match at 4:08.

Heavyweight:
6th Noah Arnett. Senior Arnett finished 2-2 on the day with a pair of pins, but lost in the fifth-place match by pin.

Senior wing Phil Coulson scored 20 points on the strength of five trifectas. Brandon Hull netted 23 points to give him 53 in two road games over the weekend

McGUFFEY - Visiting Ada lost a 58-52 non-league battle at traditional rival Upper Scioto Valley Saturday night in a non-league boys basketball contest.

USV led 17-10 after one period of play, and held a 28-20 edge at halftime. Ada pulled within 44-39 heading to the fourth period but could not completely close the gap.

Ada dropped to 5-8 overall with the tough loss. USV improved to 8-6 with their second close win over the Bulldogs in a 15-day span, both at McGuffey.

DELPHOS - Visiting Ada rallied from a 22-point deficit late only to lose 59-57 at Delphos Jefferson in a Northwest Conference boys basketball battle Friday night.

Bulldog senior post Jake Rayl sank a field goal in the final second of play to pull Ada within 58-57. After the Bulldogs fouled with 0.4 left, DJ made the first free throw and missed the second to hang on for the win. 

Ada fell to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the NWC with the tough loss. DJ improved to 4-7 and 2-0 in the NWC with the victory.

Doug Schweingruber of Bluffton is the winner of the Icon's college football bowl contest.

Of the 102 entries, he picked the most wins at 16 (out of 19 games). He wins a $20 gift certificate from Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn Co.

Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home

 Greg L. Dysert,  61, died on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at 11:11 p.m. at his residence in Ada, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born on March 10, 1958, in Lima, Ohio to the late Calvin L. and Priscilla June (Gullett) Dysert. On Aug. 26, 1977 Greg married Carla M. Nazor and she preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2014. 

Greg loved spending time with his family and friends, also enjoyed sports and cooking.  

Chamber's annual membership meeting is Feb. 19

Ada Area Chamber of Commerce starts a new year with its first monthly breakfast at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Ada Public Library.

Jon Cross (R) District 83, Ohio House of Representatives, is the speaker. He will update chamber members on anticipated legislation in Ohio this year. The Ada Icon is the breakfast sponsor.
