Pettit hosts "Ethics, Professionalism, Substance Abuse" program Oct. 18

The Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law will host a CLE on “Ethics, Professionalism and Substance Abuse” in the large moot courtroom on Friday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. The CLE will include three lectures from top professionals tackling different viewpoints on the topic.

Dr. Manoranjan D’Souza, ONU assistant professor of pharmacology, will open the session with “Substance Abuse: Drugs of Abuse.” D’Souza’s research focuses on identifying neural mechanisms underlying drug dependence. At Ohio Northern University, D’Souza also is involved in teaching neuropharmacology to fourth- and fifth-year pharmacy students.

Lot of events planned for Richland Manor residents in October

Richland Manor, 7400 Swaney Road, Bluffton, has several special events planned for its residents in October.

On Oct. 6, residents will have a Halloween celebration at Twin Lakes. On Oct. 12, residents will travel to Findlay for a pumpkin train ride. On Oct. 17 residents will participate in the Richland Manor fall festival. On Oct. 26, residents will decorate pumpkins. On Oct. 31, residents will have a Halloween party.

Bryan White winner of Icon week 5 football contest

The winner of the Icon's Week 5 football contest is Bryan White. Bryan, Elizabeth Boisvert and Randy Garmatter all correctly picked 12 games this week. Bryan was declared the winner by virtue of the second tie-breaker.

Ada is alive and well in Dayton: Beaschler starts; but Flyers lose

Christopher Beaschler (2012 Ada High School graduate) suffered a deep bruise on his right calf muscle during practice on Thursday, was walking on crutches on Friday and started his first game at linebacker on Saturday for the University of Dayton Flyers.

The Flyers were in control and had a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. However, the Marist University Red Foxes scored the next 31 points and won the Pioneer Football League contest 31-20.

This weekend at the library: used book sale, stuffed animal sleepover and scavenger hunt

It's happening at the Ada Public Library this weekend: used book sale, stuffed animal sleepover and an Ada scavenger hunt.

Amanda Bennett, library director, says to stop by the library Friday and Saturday for a used book sale. Prices follow:

Paperbacks 25 cents
Hardcovers 50 cents
Bag of books for a buck!
All proceeds benefit the Library

"Friday is our Stuffed Animal Sleepover. Drop your child's stuffed animal by 4:30 p.m. on Friday for a special stuffed-animals-only storytime and sleepover with Ms. Natalie and Ms. Manda. Stuffed animals can be picked up again on Saturday between 10 a.m.-2 p.m.," said Bennett.
