Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance presents five annual awards

ADA __ The Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance (HCCBA) held their 18th Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet on Thursday, February 20 at the McIntosh Ballroom at Ohio Northern University.

Five annual awards were presented for 2024.

  • Nonprofit of the Year was presented to Safe Haven of Hardin County, represented by Deb Oestreich.
  • Community Service of the Year was presented to John Siemon.
  • Citizen of the Year was presented to Rodney Hensel.
  • Small Business of the Year was presented to The Sweet Note Cafe, represented by Holly Layman Cannode.
  • Business of the Year was presented to Newland-Heydinger Insurance, represented by Chad and Tasha Heydinger.

During the annual meeting, Stephanie Temple of Tons of Fun Travel recognized retiring member of the Board of Directors: Fred Rush of the Hardin County Commissioners.

Free yoga at McIntosh Ballroom, February 25

The Ohio State University Extension - Hardin County invites you to "join Jami at yoga" on Tuesday, February 25 at the Ohio Northern McIntosh Center Ballroom from 7-8:00 p.m. 

All are invited and class is free thanks to a partnership with Ohio State University Extension - Hardin County and ONU Student Planning Committee. Bring a mat if you have one, they will have some if you don't.

Lake of Lights awards $10,692 to charities and nonprofits

The Lake of Lights held its annual Awards Presentation (photo) on February 18 at the Mid-Ohio Energy Conference Room in Kenton, Ohio.

Each year money from the event’s gate profits is distributed to area non-profit groups, charities, and organizations, based on the number of volunteer hours each group contributed to the event's set-up, operation, and tear-down. This year, Lake of Lights presented $10,692.00 to 29 different area charities and non-profit organizations that volunteered to help during the event. 

Joanne Ruth Amsler was an STNA

Joanne Ruth Amsler, age 93, of Dola, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at her home. 

She was born on February 13, 1932 in Ada, Ohio to Leonard Pearl and Marjorie (Cochran) Wright, Sr. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and foster parents: Oscar and Grace Patterson. She was previously married to Clyde “Sonny” Amsler.

Verizon emails some 45810 customers about work-related outages

Some Ada area Verizon customers have received a text message from the telecommunications company advising them of potential disruptions to service in the coming days. A text message received on Friday, February 21 reads as follows: 

"Verizon Msg: We're upgrading our network near Ada, OH 45810 within the next week. You may experience a temporary disruption to your mobile services and/or wireless home internet service. In limited cases, work may shift out as much as 2 weeks. Thanks for your patience as we make the network that America relies on even better."
