Warmer temperatures on Sunday were the kiss of death for snowmen in Ada. And so we present a "Requiem for Roger's Snowman."
Roger says his snowman was over seven feet tall originally. Now it is nowhere near that tall, and the carrot nose, hat, and scarf lie scattered on the ground.
The snow was off the playing field, piled along the sidelines, at Dial-Roberson stadium on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural men's lacrosse game against Franciscan, an Ohio college near Pittsburgh. ONU, with an all-freshman team drew blood first, making for a happy home team and crowd of about 200 spectators. Then, the Polar Bears scored the second, third, and fourth points making the score 4-0 before the half. (Monty Siekerman photo)
Freshman Steven Slagle scored two goals and dished out six assists to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a dominating 19-4 victory over Franciscan in ONU's inaugural varsity contest on Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears (1-0) also got four goals and two assists from freshman Max Weese.
The Barons (0-1) got two goals from Dan McCartney in their season opener.
Freshman Peter Hardt scored the first two goals in Ohio Northern history, finding the back of the net at the 12:10 and 10:57 marks of the first period. Fittingly, the first goal was assisted by Weese and the second goal by Slagle.
There are plenty of snow shovels remaining at Dollar General due to the lack of snow this winter.
Many Adaites are happy for the milder winter this year after the last two years of arctic blasts and deep, long-lasting snow cover. Temperatures in the 60s are predicted for Sunday. (Monty Siekerman photo)
Strong winds with gusts up to 60 miles per hour are possible in the Icon viewership area on Sunday, according to AEP.
Here's the statement from AEP:
"A strong jet stream will be in place across AEP Ohio on Sunday. As temperatures warm to near-record levels (60s F), some of these strong winds could mix down to the surface...resulting in strong wind gusts.
Sustained winds from the southwest of 30-35 m.p.h. and gusts up to 60 m.p.h. are possible Sunday afternoon across parts of AEP Ohio.
