First reading of cat ordinance among November 6 council legislation

The Village of Ada council will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 6 with an agenda including two resolutions and six ordinances. Council meetings take place in chambers on the second floor of the Ada Municipal Building, 115 W. Buckeye.

The item having generated the most discussion and public involvement in recent meetings is the first reading of an ordinance adding language to Chapter 505 of the Codified Ordinances of Ada regarding cats. 

The proposed ordinance is found on pages 17-18 of the council packet HERE. The language includes

  • A definition of “abandoned or stray cat” 
  • A section on the control and regulation of cats, making it "unlawful for any person, firm, corporation, or entity to harbor or feed feral cats" within the village
  • That violation of any provision...shall be a minor misdemeanor and carry a fine of up to one hundred dollars ($100.00)

Additional legislation on the agenda:

A resolution regarding payment of routine utility and payroll expenses for the year 2024.

A resolution regarding cleaning services for the year 2024.

An ordinance assessing lots and lands abutting improvements along Grandview Boulevard and Oak Street.

An ordinance approving recodification, editing and inclusion of certain ordinances in the Codified Ordinances of Ada, Ohio.

An ordinance amending Section 955.04 of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Ada, Ohio regarding solid waste displosal fees.

An ordinance amending Chapter 181 of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Ada regarding municipal income tax.

An ordinance establishing the salary of the Office of Mayor from 2024-2027.

An ordinance establishing the annual salary of the Council of The Village taking office January 1, 2024-December 31, 2027.
