Bulldog softball wins vs. Delphos Jefferson, stays 1st in NWC

DELPHOS–The visiting Ada High School softball team ran out to a big early lead and run-ruled Delphos Jefferson 15-5 in a Northwest Conference battle Thursday evening, April 20.

With the victory, Ada remained tied for first in the conference standings with Crestview at 5-0.

The Bulldogs’ overall record improved to 14-1 after the win. The Wildcats dropped to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in NWC with the loss.

“It was nice to get another league win tonight,” said Ada head coach Jeff Bassitt. 

Ada jumped on the Wildcats early with eight runs in the first inning. DJ responded with three runs in the home half of the first frame, but the Bulldogs answered with three more scores in the top of the second. 

Ada plated four runs in the third frame to offset single runs in the second and third by Delphos. 

Ada held the Wildcats scoreless in the fourth and fifth frames to invoke the 10-run rule.

Sophomore ace Jenna Bassitt earned the pitching win with a five-inning complete game to improve to 12-1 this season. On offense, she hit a single and a double. 

Junior Katie Sizemore smacked a double and two singles to help pace the 12-hit Bulldog offense.

Sophomore Tess Griffith slapped two singles. Sophomores Karley Wagner and Belah Price each hit a double.

Sophomores Aidra Preston and Natilyn McClain each contributed a single.
