UPDATED with girls team scores and interview with new Ada coach Ashley Robey.

NAPOLEON--The Ada swim team dove into its season Saturday with a solid performance at the Napoleon Wildcat Invitational.

“For being our first meet of the season, I feel we did very well,” said new Ada swim coach Ashley Robey. “Especially being a swimmer short, which resulted in us only having one girls relay team for the relay events instead of two.”

Sophomore Lily Baumgartner won the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle events to pace the Lady Bulldogs.

Senior Carlie Oldfield finished fourth in the 50 freestyle, and ended up fifth in the 100 backstroke. Classmate Kaitlyn Bowden touched ninth in the 100 back.

The Ada girls 200 medley relay quartet also came in a strong third. The Lady Bulldog 200 free relay foursome finished a solid sixth.

The Ada girls finished seventh at the meet. Bryan won the girls team crown with 410 points.

The Bulldog boys finished ninth out of 12 teams. Host Napoleon captured the boys team title.

In the combined team standings, Ada finished ninth with 187 points. Host Napoleon won the combined title with 786 points.

“We had some personal-best times and everyone tried their best,” Robey summed up. “They were also supportive of one another and helped cheer on other teams as well. I am very pleased with how they performed.”
