By Cort Reynolds

The Ada High School football team lost at Leipsic 47-14 in the Northwest Conference opener on September 9⎯their first road game of the season. Ada dropped to 1-3 and 0-1 in the NWC with the loss. Meanwhile, the Vikings improved to 2-2 and 1-0 in the league with the win.

The Vikings tallied 20 first-period points and took that lead to intermission. Ada scored two third-quarter touchdowns, but Leipsic added 21 points of their own in the stanza to carry a 27-point cushion into the final stanza.

"If we expect to be successful, we need to eliminate the big mistakes and keep working on getting better," said Bulldog second-year head coach Toby Smith.

The Vikings took the lead on an eight-yard TD pass with 2:22 left in the first period.

Leipsic senior back Hayden Hiegel then scored on an eight-yard run with 8:36 remaining in the first half for a 13-0 lead after Ada blocked the PAT kick.

Hiegel found paydirt on a two-yard TD run 5:29 before intermission to extend the lead to 20-0.

Hiegel scored again 2:12 into the third period on a five-yard run to stretch the margin to 27-0.

Quick Ada sophomore Kaine Fisher returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards to the end zone with 9:35 left in the third period. Wyatt Green's point after kick cut the deficit to 27-7.

Leipsic responded with a 46-yard scoring aerial at the 7:33 juncture to rebuild the lead to 34-7.

Ada junior back Jalee Bolden found paydirt on a two-yard run with five minutes left in the third stanza, and Green's PAT boot made it 34-14. Hiegel scored his fourth TD on a one-yard plunge with 2:20 left in the combined 35-point third quarter. The extra point pushed the Viking lead to 41-14.

Leipsic tacked on a final score with a 77-yard TD scamper with 7:45 remaining to play.
