Women's Golf opens 2012-13 season with ninth place finish at Denison Invitational

The Ohio Northern women's golf team opened its 2012-13 season with a ninth place finish at the Denison Fall Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Granville Golf Course.

The Polar Bears (2-8) finished with 767 strokes on the Par 72, 6210-yard course.

Wittenberg won the team title with 652 strokes, Denison was second with 669 strokes and Otterbein was third with 672 strokes.

Sophomore Megan Conley led Ohio Northern with a 30th place finish out of 76 golfers with an 87-91—178.

Berton named OAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Junior Mark Berton has been named OAC Men's Cross Country of the Week for the week of September 3-9.

Berton finished in eighth place out of 333 runners at the Calvin (Mich.) Knight Invitational on Saturday.

He navigated the 8,000-meter course in 25:19.

The Polar Bears finished in seventh place out of 22 teams.

Ohio Northern will return to action on September 22 when they compete in the Williams (Mass.) Classic.

Barnes named OAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Junior Jeremy Barnes has been named OAC Men's Soccer Player of the week.

Barnes tallied four goals for the Polar Bears in three games this past week.

He notched his first goal of the season on Tuesday as Northern defeated Anderson (Ind.) by a 3-0 score.

On Friday aginst Defiance, Barnes scored his second goal in the 80th minute off of a free kick as ONU won 5-1.

Against No. 13 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) on Saturday, Barnes scored both goals for ONU as the Polar Bears dropped a tough 3-2 decision.

Video game lending service offered by public library

The Ada Public Library is now lending video games for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii. Library patrons ages 18 and older may check out up to two games per household. Games may be borrrowed for one week.

According to the library staff, the game selection will change every few months so check often.

The stories it could tell

Although the First United Methodist Church building is gone, its bell remains on the church site as a reminder of the congregation of many Ada generations. The bell was cast in 1887.

Ada defeats Columbus Grove 55-21 in two-night bout

After a flash of lightning led officials to eventually postpone Friday night's game at War Memorial Stadium to Saturday night, the Ada Bulldogs pulled off another conference win over the Columbus Grove Bulldogs in a two-night spectacular, 55-21. Ada's record now stands at 3-0 (2-0 NWC) with Grove's loss putting them at 2-1 (1-1 NWC).
