Furious 4th-quarter rally falls just short as John Carroll holds off Football 28-23 on game's final play

Ohio Northern rallied from a 28-16 deficit, but were held scoreless on two trips inside the 5-yard line in the fourth quarter and fell 28-23 at John Carroll Saturday night at Don Shula Stadium.

The Polar Bears fall to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks improve to 5-2, 4-2.

Senior Tate Humphrey completed 21-of-43 passes for a career-high 306 yards and a TD and ran 21 times for 30 yards and another score for ONU.

Earl Hackworth received the Purple Heart in World War II

Earl Hackworth, 89, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at 9:31 p.m. Fox Run Manor, Findlay, Ohio. He was born on Nov. 10, 1922 in Bonanza, Kentucky, to Greeley and Lizzy (Caudill) Hackworth. They preceded him in death.

He married Bureeda Brown on Aug. 31, 1943 and she survives in Findlay, Ohio. They were married for 68 years. Earl worked as a supervisor for Clark Equipment Company of Lima, retiring in 1980 after working for 37 ½ years.

I just finished my third week of classes and am preparing for my first exam. I am currently taking seven different classes. In my first week I attended a ceremony for the medical students where the official of the Department of Health in Turkey presented a speech and we were presented our 'white coats'. I attached a picture from after the ceremony with my university's flag.

Cheri M. "Dixie Rose" Warren was a 1975 Ada HS graduate

Cheri M. "Dixie Rose" Warren, age 56, died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 4:23 PM at her residence in Kenton, Ohio.

She was born on October 11, 1956 in Kenton, Ohio to Carl D. and F. Jeanne (Vermillion) Hepner who preceded her in death. She first married Keith O. Steele and they were divorced, he survives in Kenton, Ohio. She later married John A. Warren and he survives in Kenton, Ohio.

Cheri worked in sales at Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Lima. However she was best known for being a radio personality at T-102 of Lima, Ohio.

Ruby Prater 1926- 2012

Rubena "Ruby" Prater, 86, died at 11:48 p.m. Oct. 16, 2012, at Kenton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Kenton.

She was born March 5, 1926, in Magoffin County, Ky., to Mennefee and Alta Patrick Patton, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 11, 1943, she married Herbert "Hebert" Prater, who died May 30, 2005.

Mrs. Prater was a homemaker and retired from North Electric Co., Kenton, after several years. She was a member of McGuffey Church of Christ, McGuffey. She was a member of TOPPS. She was an artist who painted landscape scenes and loved canning from grandpa's garden.

Ada students, educators and parents participate in Speak Up online survey

The Ada school students, educators and parents are participating in the online survey Speak Up this fall.

The purpose of the survey is to learn more about how students use technology in class and for homework. The survey also asks how students know more about how they are using technology to learn and how students would like teachers to use technology in classes.
