Earl Hackworth received the Purple Heart in World War II

Earl Hackworth, 89, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at 9:31 p.m. Fox Run Manor, Findlay, Ohio. He was born on Nov. 10, 1922 in Bonanza, Kentucky, to Greeley and Lizzy (Caudill) Hackworth. They preceded him in death.

He married Bureeda Brown on Aug. 31, 1943 and she survives in Findlay, Ohio. They were married for 68 years. Earl worked as a supervisor for Clark Equipment Company of Lima, retiring in 1980 after working for 37 ½ years.

Earl was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during WWII, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of the United Baptist Church; a member of the former Ada Masonic Lodge #344 F&AM and current member of the Latham Lodge #154 F&AM of Kenton, Ohio.

Survivors also include a son: Michael E. (Alice) Hackworth of Pemberville, Ohio; two daughters: Sandra L. Waggoner of Findlay, Ohio and Marcia (Herb) Searson of Perry, Ohio; a twin brother: Ernest Hackworth of Ada, Ohio and a sister: Alta Mae Hackworth of Wooster, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 1 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughter: Cheryl Hoffmann; son-in-law: Jim Hoffmann; four brothers: Everett, Cecil, Manis and Maynard Hackworth; four sisters: Mary Alice Pruitt, Elsie Leak, Flora  Conley and Edna Floor.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Elder Denver Caudill officiating.  Burial will be in Preston Cemetery in Alger, Ohio. Friends may call 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, and until the time of service on Tuesday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.

A graveside military service will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Honor Guard.
