OHSAA winter tournament regulations okayed

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors met Thursday at the OHSAA office in Columbus for its regularly scheduled October meeting. The following are highlights from the meeting. The complete set of meeting minutes will be posted at OHSAA.org.

Lots of activities on Ada Kiwanis calendar this fall

President Myrna McCurdy called the 3rd meeting (October 16th) of the 2012–2013 Kiwanis year to order at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 16 at McIntosh Center, ONU.

The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress. 

The birthday of member was Sharon MacKenzie (October 21st) was noted in song.

Robert White and Ted Kelly, guests of Jeff Schulman were introduced.

The membership anniversaries of Heather Cox   (October. 16, 2007 and Brian Marshall (October 21, 1986) were noted.
In business:

-Members heard an updated financial report from Brian Marshall, club treasurer. He also reported that a few members still have dues outstanding.

Record-breaking night for ONU's Bascom

ADA--Senior Nate Bascom became Ohio Northern's all-time points and assists leader, as the No. 8 Ohio Northern men's soccer team defeated Heidelberg by a 5-0 score Tuesday night at Mayer Field.

The Polar Bears are now 15-2 on the season and 6-0 in the OAC while Heidelberg falls to 8-6-1, 3-2-1.

The win also clinched the seveth consecutive OAC Tournament apperance for the Polar Bears.

Bascom became ONU all-time points leader early in the game when he took a pass from senior Cameron Johnson and beat the goalie to give Northern a 1-0 lead.

ONU wins five-set thriller

ADA -- Senior Ellen Grenert had 17 kills and freshman Ellie Gillespie had 14 kills and 18 digs to lead the Ohio Northern volleyball team to a thrilling 25-14, 28-26, 21-25, 20-25, 15-11 victory over Heidelberg Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 20-5 overall and move into third place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 4-2 record.

The Student Princes fall to 16-8, 4-3 with the loss.

Marian Bevington led four HU players in double figures in kills with a match-high 18.

Senior Kelsie Zumberger dished out 45 assists and junior Jeni Kmic had 25 digs for the Polar Bears.

Ghouls, goblins and witches hit the sidewalks of Ada!
The annual haunting of Ada’s sidewalks takes place next Thursday! On Oct. 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the children of Ada are invited to bring out their best costumes for the Village’s trick or treat.

Wind Orchestra to perform ‘Setting the Standard: British Wind Band Music’

 

 The Ohio Northern University Wind Orchestra will perform “Setting the Standard: British Wind Band Music” in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m.

The Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Thomas Hunt, chair of the Department of Music, will perform the music of Percy Grainger, Gustav Holst, Philip Sparkes and Guy Woolfenden. The performance will feature a clarinet solo by Elizabeth Druesedow, a sophomore accounting major from Sharon Center, Ohio, and student conducting from Jeffrey Martin, a senior music education major from Cincinnati, Ohio, and Samantha Riedlinger, a senior music education major from Sycamore, Ohio.
