Cenzie Yoder's double-double leads No. 24-ranked women's basketball past Marietta 75-48 in OAC opener

Junior Cenzie Yoder scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Ohio Northern women's basketball team opened up the Ohio Athletic Conference season with a 75-48 win over Marietta Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

With the win the Polar Bears go to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 4-2 and 1-1 in the OAC

ONU started off strong with a 23-8 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game and did not trail in the contest.

No. 5 Men's Soccer advances to first ever NCAA III tournament championship with 3-2 victory over No. 7 Williams (Mass.)

The No. 5 Ohio Northern men's soccer team advanced to their first ever NCAA III Tournament Championship, topping No. 7 Williams (Mass.) by a 3-2 score on Friday afternoon at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.

The Polar Bears improve to 25-2-0 on the season, while Ephs conclude their season at 16-2-4.

Ohio Northern will now face No. 1 Messiah (Pa.) at 2:30 pm EST on Saturday.

Senior Nate Bascom scored at the 15:04 mark for his 56th career goal. His 56 goals now tie him with current ONU head coach Brent Ridenour for the most in school history.

Lots of holiday activities on Ada school December calendar

The holiday season arrived in Ada this week.  The Ada schools will host several holiday-related events this month.  Here's the schedule:

Senior Citizens Luncheon - noon, Wednesday Dec. 5. Call the school to make reservations.

4th/5th Grade Musical - 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6th in the auditorium. Admission is free.

Holiday Concert - 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17 in the auditorium. Admission is free.

The Ada Icon welcomes letters to Santa Claus from children of all ages. The letters may be emailed to [email protected] and will be published here on the Icon. 

Matt Fleming wins Elite 89 Award for NCAA Division III men's soccer championships

Junior defenseman Matt Fleming has been named the recipient of the Elite 89 Award for the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships.

The Elite 89, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.

The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's Championships.

BVHS BVHS Receives $6,000 grant from the Community Foundation

Blanchard Valley Health System has been awarded a grant of $6,000 from the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation to support an Advance Directives Summit for area businesses, civic groups, social service agencies and religious organizations.

The funds were made available from the Findlay Industries, Inc. Fund, The Schaefer Fund, OHM Corporation Fund and the Madeleine Thomas Schneider Fund.

Currently, fewer than 20 percent of patients admitted to Blanchard Valley Hospital and Bluffton Hospital have advance directives such as a health care power of attorney and/or a living will.
