2023 Hardin County Tractor Pullers season includes three Ada events

The Hardin County Tractor Pullers have announced details for the June 10 Annual Ada War Memorial Spring Pull at the Ada War Memorial Park. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m., registration will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the event begins at 6:30 p.m.

Warmer weather is here and parents all over the county are excited to break their kids loose from the house. The past few years, the COVID-19 social guidelines limited kid activities, including comfort levels and social distancing at the playground. Kids are starting to fill up the playgrounds again, which means it is a good time to revisit the benefits of playground play with your children.

The playground offers a unique environment for building skills. There is a lot of development and therapeutic growth that can happen in an environment like a playground. Other than the obvious areas of development, such as strength and gross motor skills, children also learn body awareness, sensory regulation, executive functioning skills and self-esteem.

The following lists a few ways to use basic playground equipment to help your child develop and grow this summer.

Roadway fatalities increase over Memorial Day weekend

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting 22 crashes resulting in 23 deaths on Ohio’s roadways during the 2023 Memorial Day weekend according to provisional statistics. This is the highest number of traffic fatalities in Ohio since 2020 when 20 individuals were killed. The four-day reporting period began Friday, May 26 and ran through Monday, May 29.

Program launched to protect Ohioans from lead poisoning

A new program aimed at protecting Ohioans in all 88 counties from exposure to toxic lead has been introduced.

The new Lead Safe Ohio Program, which is part of ongoing efforts to make more of Ohio's homes lead-safe for children and families, will invest $150 million toward state and local efforts to prevent lead poisoning and remediate lead contamination.

Mark your calendar: United Way's Day's of Caring return on Friday, August 4 and 5.

Hardin County United Way is looking for dedicated volunteers to help make a difference in our community. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact by helping to coordinate and implement a variety of programs and services.

Organizers note that "Painting, cleaning, light repair projects and light landscaping projects for local organizations and towns are just some of the tasks that will be completed. And it's just FUN to come together for a great outreach opportunity!"
