Icon book review: Dean Koontz "Devoted"

A spine-tingling plot that keeps you turning pages to the very end of the story

Dean Koontz devotes his latest to a remarkable boy/dog combination.

I never cared much for Dean Koontz as a horror book writer. I have found him to be tepidly spiritual, a weak Stephen King wannabe. But this latest, Devoted (ISBN 13: 978-1-4328-7662-3), grabbed me when I was looking for a quick read.

Kipp is a dog with a genetically modified human smart brain, lacking only thumbs and vocal chords in order to write or talk to humans, he communicates with a gift of telepathy to other dogs of his kind,in an organization called “the Mysterium”.

Arlene Hopkins was a Hardin County 911 dispatcher and USV bus driver

Served on Alger EMS for 18 years

Arlene U. Hopkins, 90, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at 11:47 p.m. at MediLodge of Yale in Yale, Michigan.

She was born in Fulton, New York on July 1, 1930 to the late Howard Leslie and Hilda U. (Mitchell) VanWie.  Arlene married Robert B. Weyer and they divorced.  She then married Paul J. Hopkins and they too divorced. 

Arlene was a 911 Dispatcher for Hardin County retiring in 2003.  She also was a school bus driver for the Upper Scioto Schools, retiring in 1993.  Arlene was a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ. She was a volunteer for the Alger EMS for 18 years.           

Discovering the world of biographies

Bi•og•ra•phy - an account of someone's life written by someone else. Students in Mrs. Kosier's second grade class recently discovered biographies.
