GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving program concluded their stay at the Calvin (Mich.) Invitational Saturday, November 3, claiming 10 total top-five finishes to end the weekend fourth in a five-team field in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Senior Pete He and freshman Jeremy Adams headlined Northern's day two performances, each earning runner-up honors.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The fifth-seeded Ohio Northern men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with top-seeded John Carroll for 110 minutes and were still even through the five regulation rounds of penalty kicks in the OAC Tournament finals on Saturday evening at Don Shula Stadium.

But the host Blue Streaks edged the Polar Bears 5-4 in the second extra round of penalty kicks to win the OAC Tournament title in seven rounds of PKs.

The match is counted as a scoreless tie, with JCU advancing in the tournament on penalty kicks.

Presentation part of the “Living Through Loss” Series at Blanchard Valley Hospital

The third presentation of the “Living through Loss” series will be held on Monday, Nov. 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and titled “Facing the Holidays After a Loss.” This presentation will take place in the Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital located at 1900 South Main Street in Findlay.

“Facing the Holidays After a Loss” will focus on how the bereaved can navigate the holiday season while enduring the pain of losing a loved one. Theresa Scherger, social worker at Bridge Home Health and Hospice, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, will be presenting with an opportunity for discussion to follow.

BEREA — Junior Anthony McFadden completed 26-of-44 passes for a career-high 392 yards and two touchdowns to lead Ohio Northern in a 48-41 loss at No. 24-ranked Baldwin Wallace on Saturday afternoon at Finnie Stadium.

 

The Polar Bears (5-4 overall, 4-4 Ohio Athletic Conference) also got 8 receptions for 173 yards and a score from senior Chad Rex and 101 yards rushing and three touchdowns from freshman Brock Martin.

The Polar Bears will wrap up their 2018 season next Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. contest at Heidelberg in the annual Bendekovic Bowl rivalry game.

For the 20th time in program history, the 20th-ranked Ohio Northern women's volleyball team has claimed the OAC Tournament title after defeating third-seeded Muskingum 3-1 in the OAC Tournament Finals held inside the ONU Sports Center in Ada Saturday afternoon.

 

With the victory, the Polar Bears climb to 22-7 overall on the season. Northern also secures a spot in their third consecutive NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament with the Ohio Athletic Conference's automatic qualifying bid.

BEXLEY — Sophomore Beelal Hasan (Westerville/Thomas) scored with 51 seconds gone in the second overtime period to lift the fifth-seeded Ohio Northern men's soccer team past top-seeded Capital 2-1 on Friday evening in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament at Bernlohr Stadium.

 

The Polar Bears (13-7-1 overall) advance to the finals on Saturday night at 7 pm at John Carroll, while the Crusaders bow out of the tournament with a 14-4-0 record.

Senior William Velotta had five saves in goal for the Polar Bears but came up big in several key spots to keep Ohio Northern in the match.
