Ada/Lost Creek swimmers compete at WOAL meet

Ready, get set, swim!  That command starts Friday for members of the Ada/Lost Creek swim team at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool.

This year, Bluffton hosts the Western Ohio Aquatic League meet championships. The event, will bring hundreds of fans and swimmers to Bluffton for the next two days.

“Warms-up is at 7 a.m. followed by festivities at 9 a.m. and swimming beginning around 10 a.m.” said Liz Diller, one of the two Bluffton swim team coaches. “Normally we have a couple thousand fans here, so it adds up pretty quickly.”

There's a cowboy on the loose in Ada. It's "Wooly Chaps," which is part of the Frederick Remington sculpture pieces on the ONU campus.

Stratton Greenhouses holding storm recovery sale Friday and Saturday

Stratton Greenhouses, 9915 Lincoln Highway, Bluffton, will hold a "storm recovery sale," Friday and Saturday, July 13-14. Sale hours are Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ONU receives funding to develop new Risk Management and Insurance major

 

Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration was awarded a grant from the Robert P. Ashlock Memorial Program, funded through Assurex Global and administered by The Griffith Insurance Education Foundation to develop a risk management and insurance (RMI) major.

Ohio Northern is planning to introduce the new major to address the increasing demand for jobs in the emerging risk management field. The funds, totaling $5,000 from the foundation, will be used to complete the research associated with specification of the program, for curriculum development, marketing and recruiting materials and for other start-up activities.

Liberty Belles and Boys 4-H Club food drive July 28

Liberty Belles and Boys 4-H Club members will hold a drive-thru food drive  Saturday, July 28, according to the club's sponsors. Icon viewers are encouraged to drop off food at the Hays Insurance parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon on the day of the drive.

The club is collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items for the Ada Food Pantry.

Two Ada births reported at Bluffton Hospital

The Bluffton Hospital reports the births of two Ada babies in recent weeks. They are:

• Derek James Dennis, son of Amy and Thomas Dennis, born May 30, measuring 20 1/2 inches and weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces.

• Lincoln Clark Wayts, son of Andrew and Cynthia Wayts, born June 20, measuring 19 1/2 inches and weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces.
