Ottawa firm apparent winning bidder on municipal building project

Six bids opened; Kuhlman Builders' total bid reached $687,946

Ada council will act Tuesday on legislation to get the village municipal building interior renovation project moving, according to Jami Hall, village administrator.

Six bids were opened on March 6. The apparent winning bid will go to Kuhlman Builders, Ottawa, upon the recommendation of Gillian Stechschulte, project architect from TDG, Technicion Design Group.

Kuhlman Builders’ base bid was $670,000 and its alternate 1 bid was $17,946 for a total contract bid of $687,946.

The architect's original estimate for the project was $618,730 with a $24,000 estimate for the HVAC split-system replacement. Although the actual bid is higher than the estimate it is still low enough that the Ada council could accept it.

Other bids were submitted by ACI Construction, Amcorp Construction, Helms Construction, Muhlenkamp Building Corp. and Westerheide Construction. The bid tabulations sheet is below this story.

Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-April and conclude by the end of September.

The municipal building will undergo a major overhaul for all village offices and the police department.

In addition, an elevator will be added to the structure. Presently, there is no elevator access to the second floor where council meets.
