Youth leadership seminar in Ada June 9-12; lots of community service projects planned

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY) is returning to Ada this week.

HOBY is a four-day leadership seminar for over 200 high school sophomores from northern and western Ohio held June 9-12 at Ohio Northern University, according to Katie Ferren, co-director of Community Service.

The HOBY program inspires students to recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their homes, schools, workplaces and communities.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 11, is a community service day for HOBY Ambassadors.

Call of Beauty hair salon now open on Main Street

Call of Beauty hair salon is now open at 110 N. Main St., Ada, according to Kylee Prater, owner and hairstylist.

She graduated from Nationwide Beauty Academy in Columbus and has been styling hair for the past nine years in Lima and Ada before opening her own shop in what was a tattoo business for many years.

She does haircuts, color, perms, waxing, relaxers, manicures, pedicures, gel polish, and makeup applications.

The business is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 1p.m. on Saturday.

Ada swim team launches summer season at Shawnee

Ada's swim team launches its summer season in a meet at Shawnee on Thursday, June 9. The team includes over 100 swimmers and competes in the Western Ohio Aquatic League (WOAL).

This year's schedule follows:

Thursday, June 16 - Westside
Monday, June 20 - at Kenton
Thursday, June 23 - Sherwood

Town and Country Creators 4-H members hear several presentations

The Town and Country Creators 4H Club met for a regular meeting on Monday June 6 at 6pm, St John’s Evangelical Church, Kenton.

Club officer, Devry Moore presided at the meeting and led the 4H pledge while Addison Mustain led the American pledge. Roll Call was answering the question, “What is your favorite color?” At the meeting were 14 members, 8 advisors, 2 guests for a total of 24 in attendance. Secretary, Alex Haushalter, read the minutes of the last meeting and they were approved as read.
