ONU to offer free courses focusing on small business development

The Community Economic Development Center (CEDC) at Ohio Northern University will hold six noncredit certification classes beginning in January. Classes are free and open to the public, and all events begin at 6:30 p.m.

Classes range in length from one to six weeks, and each class focuses on general topics relating to the development of a business. The classes range from exploring self-employment to computer literacy.

ONU's ‘Healthy Campus’ program recognized

Ohio Northern University’s multidisciplinary “Healthy Campus” wellness program has produced a more healthy campus, and its results are being nationally recognized.

ONU’s Healthy Campus initiative is a joint effort between the ONU Office of Human Resources and ONU HealthWise, which presented their results at the American Public Health Association meeting in October.

Two American Red Cross blood drives in Ada next month

There are two opportunities to donate blood to the American Red Cross in Ada in January.

The first is on Monday, Jan. 14, from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Ada Visiting Nurses, located at 1200 S. Main St., Ada.

The second will be held Monday, Jan. 21, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Ohio Northern University McIntosh Center, located at 525 S. Main St., Ada.

Hattie Castle, 1937 - 2012

Hattie Castle died at 8:36 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

She was born March 17, 1937 in Breathitt County, Ky., to Will and Junnie (Brown) McIntosh. On March 5, 1955 she married Willard Castle and he survives in Ada.

Also surviving are three sons, Roger Lee (Donna) Castle of Ada, William Brian (Julie) Castle of McGuffey and Raymond Glenn (Cherie) Castle of Ada; two sisters, Revel (Bert) Conley of Ada and Norma Jean (Hazard) Moore of Alger; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Bonnie Eversole, Wanda Lee Stevens and Myrtle Dunson.
