Hornets sting Ada boys

RAWSON - Host Cory-Rawson led throughout to post a methodical 63-44 non-league boys basketball win over Ada Wednesday night.  

 

The Bulldogs fell to 2-4 and 0-3 on the road with the defeat, while the Hornets improved to 3-3 with the victory.

 

Ada trailed 16-10 after one period of play. The Hornets widened their lead to 36-21 at the half and stretched it to 51-32 heading into the fourth quarter. Both teams scored 12 in the final stanza to keep the final margin at 19.

 

Sophomore wing Phillip Coulson led Ada with 12 points. Bulldog junior post Connor Frazier added 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

 

"Cory did a good job making us uncomfortable," said Ada second-year head coach Dre White. "We did not come ready to play in a big game."

 

Ada sank two triples in eight tries (25 percent), and made 15 of 33 two-point field goal attempts (45 percent). Overall from the field, the purple and gold connected on 17 of 41 tries (41 percent).

 

The Bulldogs were successful on just eight of 19 attempts at the charity stripe (42 percent). C-R sank 22 field goals, including six treys, and converted 13 foul shots.

 

Ada grabbed 26 team rebounds and committed 15 turnovers. Bulldog senior guard Ethan Swaney added seven points.

 

The Bulldog junior varsity won another nailbiter 36-35 to improve to 4-2.

Ada (0-3 road, 1-0 NWC) visits Delphos Jefferson (2-4, 0-0 NWC) Friday in a Northwest Conference battle in its final game before Christmas.

 

"It will be a big test," said White. "It is an NWC game against a tough team at a tough place to play."

 

DJ lost to Ottoville 59-48 this past Tuesday in Delphos. The Big Green is one of two common opponents the Bulldogs and DJ have played. Ottoville beat Ada, 83-51.

 

Jefferson (2-2 home) also defeated Perry 57-50 at home, while the Commodores defeated the Bulldogs 69-43 in Ada last Saturday.
