Nine area students attending Boys' and Girls' State

Sponsored by Foss-Meyer-Agin Post of the American Legion

Nine students have been chosen from Ada and Upper Scioto Valley high schools
by the Foss-Meyer-Agin Post of the American Legion to be this year’s delegates to Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State.

This year’s Buckeye Girls State Delegates are:
 Haley Hunsicker:  She attends Upper Scioto Valley High School.  She is active in student government, sports, FFA, and a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Duane and Melanie Hunsicker.

Alexis Christon: She attends Upper Scioto Valley High School.   She is active
in theater, student government, sports, choir, yearbook, and National Honor
Society.  She is the daughter of Susan Hardesty.

Lexus Lunguy: She attends Ada High School.  She is active in cheerleading,
color guard, show choir, and the language club. She is the daughter of Kim
Lunguy.

Lyric Jones: She attends Ada High School.  She is active in cheerleading,
track, language and film clubs.  She is the daughter of Scott and Bridgette
Jones.

This year’s Buckeye Boys State delegates are:
Zachary Beaschler: He attends Ada High School.  He is active in student
government, Language club, swimming, tennis, and 4-H.  He is the son of Ron
and Christy Beaschler.

Alexander Hurtig: He attends Ada High School.  He is active in quiz bowl,
show choir pianist and is also a church pianist.  He is the son of Mike and
Julie Hurtig.

Jeremy Hensley: He attends Upper Scioto Valley High School.  He is active in
National Honor Society and holds a part time job.  He is the son of Jeremiah
and Stacey Hensley.

Jakob Haschak: He attends Ada High School.  He is active in Sports and FFA
and his church youth group.   He is the son of Jason and Janelle Hoschak.

Blaine Dearth: He attends Ada High School.  He is active in soccer and works
part time at Community Market.  He is the son of Jennifer Dearth.  Blaine is being sponsored by the Wapakoneta American Legion Post.

Both Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State are a week long intensive
education program on Ohio government for soon to be high school senior students. Youth will be exposed to the rights, privileges, duties, and
responsibilities of citizenship. 

The training is objective, practical, and non-partisan with city, county, and state government operated by students elected to the various offices.  Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, a band, and recreation.

Buckeye Boys State will be held the week of June 11-18 at Miami University
in Oxford, and Buckeye Girls State will be held the week of June 11-17
at the University of Mount Union in Alliance.
