Mattson wins shot put

SPENCERVILLE - Ada competed well, especially in the boys field events, in the first day of the Northwest Conference track and field meet at Spencerville Thursday evening.

 

The Bulldog boys stand second behind only Columbus Grove after day one of competition, 45-30.5 points. Junior Noah Mattson won the shot put title to pace the Ada boys on the first day.

 

Sophomore Alex Morgan took second in the pole vault. Ada senior Zach Breidenbach finished fourth in the high jump. The Bulldog boys 4 x 800 relay quartet also came in third.

ADA - Host Ada jumped on visiting Continental with a huge first inning, then added on late when the Lady Pirates crept within striking distance to notch a 13-4 victory in Div. IV softball sectional final action at the park Thursday evening.

 

The second-seeded Lady Bulldogs improved to 15-8 with the decisive win over the seventh-seeded Pirates on the warm night. With the victory, Ada tied the program single-season record for wins.

 

"The kids expected to win and played like it," said Bulldog head coach Troy Erickson. "We got off to a good start and hit the ball hard, but we need to be more consistent up and down the lineup.

 

Ohio Northern senior Shannen Larsen Van Alstine (Neenah, Wis.) and junior Emily Hershberger (Jackson Township/Jackson) were named Honorable Mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference in women's lacrosse for 2018 in voting conducted by the league's nine head coaches.

Larsen Van Alstine is a three-year starter in goal for the Polar Bears and is making her first appearance on the All-Conference squad.

This season, she posted six victories, 97 saves and a 16.46 GAA.

Ohio Northern University will celebrate an important milestone in the lives of its students during upcoming commencement exercises in the ONU Sports Center Field House. ONU President Daniel DiBiasio will preside over the ceremonies. 

 

The College of Pharmacy and undergraduate colleges, as well as Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program, will hold their ceremonies on Sunday, May 13, and the College of Law commencement is scheduled for Sunday, May 20.
