Don't read this if you're hungry because you'll want to grab your car keys and head to the 235 Grill in Alger before you finish the story.
The Grill, located in the heart of town, serves large portions of mouth-watering ribs, chicken, kabobs, salmon, filet mignon with all the fixins. Oh, and pizza, too.
And, you better get there early or call ahead on steak or rib nights. They serve 150 dinners, that's it. When they are gone, they are gone.
The 235 Grill is popular with locals, of course, where everybody knows your name; but the establishment's reputation has grown. People from Ada, Ottawa, Sidney, Bellefontaine make the journey to Alger for some high class eating in building that isn't pretentious. Its a fun place to eat.
I've eaten there a dozen times this summer and can attest to its delicious food at a reasonable price. I'm cheap, love the chicken chunks which are covered in the Grills own homemade BBQ sauce for $5.
I'm tempted to try the surf-n-turf dinner: 8 oz hand-cut filet mignon steak, 3 crab stuffed mushrooms, 3 breaded shrimp, fresh side salad, and dinner roll for $19.50.
The business began in April of 2010 by Jerry Henderson. It's family owned and operated.
Check out their Facebook page: 235. Grill. Phone: 419-757-0021. Opens 5 p.m. Closed Sunday. They cater, too.
Comedian Spencer James
The 235 Grill will host Comedian Spencer James from 9 until 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1. He won the 2014 World Series of Comedy Tour. Tickets are $20 single, $35 couple.
His standup routine is a little dose of Martin and Lewis, with a little dash of Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. mixed in. He blends both music and dance into his show.
James has appeared on Laugh-Fox, in Las Vegas, and tours the country.
For guaranteed seating call the restaurant at 419-757-0021. Oh, and get there before 9 o'clock so you can enjoy some of the food. They open for dinner at 5.
