ADA - The Ada High School girls basketball team battled but fell 66-36 to non-conference foe Waynesfield-Goshen on Saturday, January 4.

The home defeat dropped the Bulldog record to 1-10 overall. Waynesfield-Goshen improved to 7-4 after the win.

Tiger senior six-footers Tatelyn Faraglia and Raegan Hutchison combined for 38 points. Sophomore guard Tarynn Vorhes netted a career-high 20 markers as W-G shot well despite a two-week layoff.

“I thought we played really hard, but they are such a tough matchup with their size and two bigs who can shoot,” said Ada third-year head coach Zach Ricker.

Waynesfield shot well despite a two-week layoff between games. The Tigers improved to 7-4 with the decisive win, while Ada fell to 1-10.

“Vorhes did a good job attacking the basket,” said first-year W-G head coach Brent Farley. “Tatelyn took over in the third quarter and asserted herself. Raegan battled inside and hit some outside shots.

“We executed offensively,” he noted. “Our defense was better than it has been.”

W-G jumped ahead 8-0 and never trailed. A Hutchison trey with 1:02 left in the opening period made it 13-1 after the first quarter.

A right side triple by Faraglia capped a 9-0 spurt starting the second period that ballooned the margin to 22-1.

Conley stopped the run with a basket, and then sank a putback later. Brooklynn Andreasen banked in a lane shot with 34 seconds left in the half.

Vorhes and Hutchison ended the half by drilling treys to make it 28-7 at intermission.

Faraglia poured in 11 third period points during a high-scoring 20-16 quarter. Ashley Hevlin sank a foul shot, followed by two charity stripers from freshman Mariah Burns.

Ada sophomore Kenley Poling canned a left-handed layup in transition at the 4:53 mark. Bruns then canned a bank shot and swished a right side 11-footer to make it 37-16 with 3:41 left in the third.

Faraglia led a 9-0 flurry by scoring six points. Conley canned a fast break layin, but Faraglia sliced through the defense for a short banker. The spunky Vorhes knocked down two pull-up shots in the up-tempo stanza.

Conley yanked down a miss and canned a nice baseline follow shot at the 34-second mark. Poling buried a right side trey with two ticks left in the period to cut the deficit to 48-23 heading to the fourth quarter.

Vorhes sank a putback layin, a right wing trifecta and a fast break bank shot in the final period. Faraglia swished a right side trey, and Taryn Tate nailed a right side 17-footer.

Poling drained a trifecta from the top of the key with 6:03 remaining. Leci Poling nailed a 16-footer from the circle 47 ticks later. Kenley then drilled a right corner triple to cut the deficit to 60-31 at the 4:10 mark.

Conley stole the ball and sped coast to coast for a layin seconds later. Kenley Poling buried a right wing triple for the final Ada points.

Tiger Emma Pence scored on a driving banker for the last points to push the final margin to 30. Ada was only outscored 38-29 in a fast-paced second half.

Bulldog sophomore guard Kenley Poling scored a career-high 14 points, all in the second half behind four triples, to lead Ada.

Conley netted 11 markers and blocked one shot. Burns added six points in the third period.

“I thought Brooklynn played very hard and well defensively,” Ricker pointed out. “She made some scrappy plays.”

W-G sank 19 two-pointers and drained six treys. They converted 10 of 13 free throws (77 percent).

Faraglia scored 16 of her game-high 21 points in the second half, while Hutchison added 17 markers.

Ada canned 10 deuces and drilled four triples. The Bulldogs converted four of eight foul shots (50 percent).

Ada committed 11 turnovers, while W-G made seven miscues.
