Women's Basketball receives votes in D3hoops.com Preseason Poll

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team received votes in the D3hoops.com Preseason poll.

Ohio Northern received 36 votes in voting conducted by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country.

Calvin (Mich.) was ranked No. 1 with 592 points, followed by Geroge Fox (Ore.) with 560 points and St. Thomas (Minn.) with 536 points.

Fellow OAC foe and defending OAC Tournament Mount Union was ranked No. 6 with 395 points.

Dave Reese, Mt. Cory Christmas tree farmer, guest of Kiwanis

President Myrna McCurdy called the fifth meeting (October 30th) of the 2012–2013 Kiwanis Year to order at 12:00 noon at McIntosh Center, ONU.

The following guests were introduced: Arlene Allison, guest of Scott Allison; Robert Sprague; and Dave Reese, program speaker.

The birthdays of Mark Shull (October 31) and Bill Fuller (November 4th were celebrated in song.

Joe Ferguson was thanked for his efforts on the Halloween Parade, even though the event was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Hurricane Sandy affects ONU sports teams' schedules

High winds, heavy rains and snow from Hurricane Sandy have forced several changes in the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball and Men's Soccer Tournament schedules this week.

The No. 3-seeded Ohio Northern volleyball team's quarterfinal match with Baldwin Wallace, scheduled for Tuesday night at 7 pm, has been postponed until Wednesday at 7 pm at the ONU Sports Center.

The semifinals and finals remain scheduled for Friday and Saturday, as previously planned.

‘Classical Jam’ comes to Freed Center stage Nov. 10

 

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “Classical Jam” as part of the ongoing Studio Series in the Stambaugh Studio Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

Classical Jam (CJ) is committed to presenting engaging, lively, and high-caliber performances to audiences of diverse ages, cultures and social backgrounds through concerts, workshops and outreach programs. CJ unites acclaimed soloists and chamber musicians for performances that delight both new and established audiences of classical music.

Jayme Jarrett named Outstanding New Professional

 

Jayme Jarrett, financial aid counselor at Ohio Northern University, was named the Outstanding New Professional at the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA) annual conference in Milwaukee, Wis., from Oct. 14-17. 

MASFAA includes financial aid professionals from colleges and universities in nine states. This award is given annually to recognize the outstanding contribution of one new professional to the financial aid profession. The recipient must have been in the profession for less than five years and made outstanding contributions at the institutional, state, regional or national levels.

Ohio Northern University to honor veterans

Ohio Northern University will celebrate the contributions of American service members with a number of activities beginning Nov. 5 and leading up to Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

On Nov. 5 and 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., there will be an Army National Guard display on the Tundra (behind English Chapel).

On Nov. 7, there will be a military-appreciation table in McIntosh Center. ONU community members are invite to sign cards, which then will be sent to active-duty military personnel.
