Obituary for Marlene A. Kindle

Marlene A. Kindle, age 90, of Lima, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. 

She was born on August 21, 1934 in Bluffton, Ohio to the late Clarence and Mildred (Zahrend) Gleason. Marlene married Lester Kindle on June 25, 1954 and he preceded her in death on April 6, 1980.

Jason and Ursula Minich purchase Keith's Hardware

At noon on Monday, March 31, the keys and ownership of Keith's Hardware officially passed from Keith and Kathy Wire to Jason and Ursula Minich. The two local families, Century 21 Real Estate and Quest Federal Credit Union gathered on a day when the store closed for this purpose.

The Wires purchased Baker’s Hardware 45 years ago and first operated from rented space on Main St. They changed the name to Keith’s Hardware in 1986 and built the 106 S Johnson St store when part of their space was sold in 1989.

“Nobody puts Baby in a corner”: Measles protection

On August 21, 1987, the movie Dirty Dancing was released in the United States. One of the most famous lines from the picture was “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.”  Johnny Castle, played by Patrick Swayze, tells this line to Baby, played by Jennifer Grey. In 2024, the movie was selected to be preserved in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. 

The phrase from the movie has become iconic and represents a stance of empowerment or standing up to societal expectations.

Severe thunderstorm near Wapakoneta

At 920 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Wapakoneta, moving northeast at 65 mph. HAZARD...Quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Minor damage to vehicles is possible.

Locations impacted include... Roundhead, Fryburg, Jumbo, New Hampshire, Uniopolis, Buckland, Waynesfield, Wapakoneta, Cridersville, St. Johns, State Route 195 at State Route 235, and Fort Shawnee. This includes I-75 in Ohio between mile markers 106 and 118.

Bulldog softball blasts Pirates

BLUFFTON – The visiting Ada High School softball team hammered Bluffton 12-1 Tuesday, April 1 to stay undefeated.

“It was nice to get another win and play a clean game,” said fourth-year Ada head coach Jeff Bassitt. “We didn’t make any errors. It is nice to play solid defense.”

The Bulldogs out-hit the Pirates 12-1 in the run-rule shortened contest.

Ada improves to 3-0 with the non-league victory, while Bluffton lost its opener to start out 0-1.
