The Ohio Northern University Department of Music will host the third annual All-Ohio Choral Day on Saturday, Nov. 1. More than 160 high school music students and teachers from across the state will participate in the event.
Led by distinguished choral composer Joseph M. Martin and assisted by Ben Ayling, ONU director of choral activities, the students will join University Singers, the select mixed ensemble at ONU, in a day of music-making and education.
The All-Ohio Choral Day will conclude with an evening concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Freed Center. Special guest soloist Sue Martin will be featured singing many of the songs that were part of her repertoire as the original Ariel in the Disney stage play, “The Little Mermaid.” The University Singers and Chamber Singers also will perform.
Martin, who received her music degree from Bowling Green State University, was the principal soloist with “The Pennsylvanians.” Later, she began an almost 20-year run as an actress and performer at Walt Disney World. She has sung for millions of people as a member of the “Voices of Liberty” at Epcot Center. She has appeared in numerous musicals and has sung at The Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.
Tickets for the concert are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and $5 for students. Tickets for ONU faculty and staff are $10. The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
