Rumpke refuse calendar, information sheets available

The 2023 Rumpke refuse and recycling calendars have been mailed out to current residents. If you do not receive one in the mail, you may stop in the Municipal Building to pick up your copy today. The link above also provides recycling guidelines and general refuse pickup information.

 

 

 

ONU awarded nearly $1 million for STEM student support

Ohio Northern University has received a substantial Choose Ohio First (COF) grant for STEM student recruitment and retention. Totaling $952,000, the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) fiscal year 2023 grant funding will assist ONU students studying in STEM and health professions majors.

The competitive grants are part of Ohio’s ongoing effort to develop STEM talent within the state to address the skilled labor shortages STEM professions are increasingly experiencing. According to ODHE Chancellor Randy Gardner, the program is providing $28 million to colleges and universities for this latest cycle.

Board of Education 2023 reorganization meeting January 12

The Ada Exempted Village Schools, 725 West North Avenue, has announced a reorganization meeting for the Board Of Education at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12.

AHS girls basketball victorious vs. LCC

Sumner shoots Ada girls past T-Birds; career high 33 points

LIMA--The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team topped former league foe Lima Central Catholic 56-40 Tuesday night, January 3.

Senior guard Courtney Sumner poured in a career-high 33 points with six three-point goals to pace the victors.

Ada evened its record at 6-6 with the road win, while LCC fell to 4-7 with the defeat.

Sumner canned four triples in the first period and scored 16 points to propel Ada into a 20-14 lead.

Greg Grimslid to be inducted in AHS Hall of Honor on January 7

Community invited to reception

On Saturday, January 7, the Ada High School Alumni Association will induct Greg Grimslid into its Hall of Honor. Grimslid, an Ada attorney and Hardin Co. Municipal Judge, was nominated by Britton Devier. The process has jump started the Hall of Honor back to life after a few years of inactivity.

Grimslid will be honored at a reception prior to the AHS Boys Basketball game vs. Upper Scioto Valley. The public is invited to attend the event from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria, 725 W North Ave. The event will also celebrate 2022 scholarship recipient Kirsten Poling, and all Ada alumni. 

ArtSpace/Lima photography exhibit opens January 7

ArtSpace/Lima will host the annual Juried Photography Exhibition from January 7-February 4,  2023. The exhibition features artists from around the region with over 100 works on display. Photographers from Ada Icon and Bluffton Icon readership areas include Wendy Chappell-Dick, Jake Collins and Rae Staton.

The  photography exhibit has cash awards for Best of Show, First, Second, and Third Place, Black and  White and Color Award, Youth Category, and an ArtSpace Award.

The opening reception will be on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The awards announcement will  take place at 7:15 p.m.
