Community invited to reception

On Saturday, January 7, the Ada High School Alumni Association will induct Greg Grimslid into its Hall of Honor. Grimslid, an Ada attorney and Hardin Co. Municipal Judge, was nominated by Britton Devier. The process has jump started the Hall of Honor back to life after a few years of inactivity.

Grimslid will be honored at a reception prior to the AHS Boys Basketball game vs. Upper Scioto Valley. The public is invited to attend the event from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria, 725 W North Ave. The event will also celebrate 2022 scholarship recipient Kirsten Poling, and all Ada alumni.

Grimslid’s professional accomplishments include:

Ada Law Practice since 1981
Hardin Co. Judge since 2005

His community service includes:

Coach at Ada High School for 40+ years, including head track and field coach for 34 years
Track coach of the year, 2013
High school basketball official

Support for Grimslid’s nomination included letters from Devier, Jason M. Miller, and Henry Zaborniak, Jr., OHSAA Assistant Commissioner, Retired, Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame, Inducted 2011.

Devier, a 2002 AHS graduate and Ada Schools K-12 Assistant Principal, wrote “For more than 40 years many things have changed in my hometown, Ada, Ohio. But, there is one thing that hasn’t changed. Every spring for those 40+ years there has been Grizz. That is, Ada high school track and field coach Greg Grimslid, lovingly known as Grizz. Each year Coach Grizz has donned his stop watch and rain gear to help Ada student-athletes be their best both on the track and in life.”

Miller wrote, “I had the professional opportunity to work with Judge Grimslid for the past fifteen years during my tenure as the Hardin County Municipal Prosecutor and, in that time, became not only a colleague to Greg, but also a friend. His dedication to the judiciary resonated both by his steadfast fairness to people and understanding that the cases in front of him were larger issues than what was ever contained inside of a manilla folder. He exercised patience and temperament with people—not just cases.”

Zoborniak wrote “Because of his hard work and dedication to the Ohio Northern University football program, as an upperclassman he earned Ohio Athletic Conference honors.  Upon graduation he served as an ONU assistant coach while attending the ONU Petit College of Law.  After his stint with ONU, Greg served as a volunteer football and track coach at Ada junior & senior high schools.  His dedication to those students is unparalleled.  He coached several kids to OHSAA Track & Field State Championships. Since 1978 he has been a dream builder with thousands of student-athletes.”
