Ada girls soccer dominates Cougars

ADA – The host Ada High School girls soccer team dismantled winless non-league foe Van Wert 10-0 Saturday afternoon, September 28, to celebrate Senior Day in style at War Memorial Stadium.

Ada poured in seven first half goals to clinch the verdict early. Senior Karley Wagner authored a hat trick and passed out two assists to pace the onslaught.

Lexi Poling scored twice in the first half while Wagner, Alyssa Nau, Kenley Poling, Alex Gibson and Jillian Allison all found the net once before intermission.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-6 overall with the lopsided victory. The Cougars fell to 0-13 after the loss.

RAWSON – The Ada High School volleyball team finished fifth at the eight-team Cory-Rawson Invitational tournament on Saturday, September 28, by winning their last two matches.

Ada improved its record to 9-9 after the busy day.

The Bulldogs lost their first match to Holgate after taking the first set 25-14. Holgate came back to win the final two sets 26-24, 25-20 to advance to the semifinals.

Senior libero Bassitt mustered 20 digs to pace the defense.

Sophomore setter Jaylin St. Laurent passed out 21 assists, came up with 10 digs and dealt a pair of aces.

Jolliff leads Bulldog boys soccer to thrilling win over Kenton

KENTON - The visiting Ada High School boys soccer team enjoyed a three-goal spurt and staved off a late rally to beat Hardin County rival Kenton 3-2 Saturday evening and spoil Senior Night for the Wildcats.

Ada senior Logan Jolliff scored two big second half goals to help lead the Bulldogs to the hard-fought win.

The Bulldogs tallied all three of their goals in an eight-minute frenzy late in the game to pull off the victory. All five goals in the match were scored after halftime.

Ada improved to 10-4 overall with the non-league victory.

Kenton dropped to 4-6-3 after losing the county rivalry battle.

Mariann Marcella Royer taught at Upper Scioto Valley Schools

Mariann Marcella Royer, age 92, of Roundhead, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Vancrest of Ada.  

She was born on May 18, 1932, in Hardin County, Ohio to Marce and Mildred (Shirack) Wienken. On October 13, 1951, Mariann married Eugene Royer and he survives in Roundhead.

Also surviving are her three children: Julie Collins of Lima, Rick (Brenda) Royer and Sally (Gary) Newfer of Roundhead; daughter-in-law, Kristi Royer of Roundhead; eight grandchildren: Paige Collins, Spencer Collins, Garrett Royer, Willow Lowery, Noah Lowery, Bri (Wayne) Viera, Shawn DeLong and Caleb DeLong; and four great grandchildren.
