Women's tennis tops Biola (Calif.) 9-0, falls to Whittier (Calif.) 6-3

The Ohio Northern women's tennis team concluded its spring trip with a 9-0 victory over Biola (Calif.), but fell to regionally ranked Whittier (Calif.) on Tuesday.

The Polar Bears are now 9-2 on the season. Biola fell to 1-9 and Whittier improved to 4-1.

Against Biola, ONU picked up at 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles by senior Michelle Tuma and freshman Rachael Miller.

Sophomores Kristin Cellentani and Brittany Miller won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and juniors Carly Olmstead and Lauren Rife were victorious by a 8-4 score at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, freshman Christina Corbean and Meghan Letizia won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

Tuma scored a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles and Brittany Miller won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

At No. 5 singles, freshman Taryn Strombeck scored a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles and Olmstead won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.

Against Whittier, Letizia and Olmstead posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

Brittany Miller won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Strombeck was victorious at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 7-5.

Ohio Northern will return to action when it hosts Oberlin on March 15 at 4:30 p.m.
