Hardin County Sharpshooters H-4 sign-up Feb. 10

4-H sign up night for the Hardin County Sharpshooters will be held Wednesday, Feb 10, at Hog Creek Game Club from 6:30-8 p.m.

ONU students to help with tax preparation

Taxpayers in Hardin and surrounding counties can find free income tax assistance from Ohio Northern University business students through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).

The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income (generally $54,000 and below) individuals across the country who cannot prepare tax returns on their own.

As part of this program, ONU students receive training and become IRS-certified to help prepare basic and intermediate tax returns and identify special credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly.

Girls' bball: Ada drops NWC contest

Ada girls' basketball team lost to Bluffton on the road tonight in a Northwest Conference contest.

Bluffton defeated Ada 48-35, putting their record at 14-5 (6-1). Ada moves to 12-7 (4-3).

Water, water, everywhere on Ada council's agenda

Water was on the minds of council members on Tuesday night, as Ada's village council considered a proposal to weatherproof the exterior facade of the Municipal Building at 115 W. Buckeye St. and a request by a farmer's father to help him pay for field drainage improvements that he says benefits the village.

The council approved a proposal by Trisco Systems to weatherproof the brick building that houses the village's administrative offices and its council chamber.

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate

Julia and Noah Leonard sample some chocolate desserts at the Ada Public Library on Wednesday evening. The library's annual chocolate bake-off was a grand success. Everything for the sweet tooth was available from mochi, a Japanese concoction, to healthy peanut butter cup. How could something so delicious be called healthy? The rich dessert is gluten free and contains all natural ingredients as well as local maple syrup. It's vegan, too. Time to gorge...in a healthy way, of course. (Monty Siekerman photo)

Looking for some warm winter fun?

The Ada Academic Boosters and Ada Music Boosters purse and jewelry raffle may be just what you need.

The raffle Sunday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. in McIntosh Center at Ohio Northern University. Doors open at 1 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $20 each. Tickets at the door are $25 each.

According to the Boosters: Buy your tickets soon because tickets are limited.

Arlene Allision of the Boosters said, "Laugh your way through an afternoon of 15 Bingo games, quarter auctions, raffle prizes, door prizes, heavy hors’ d ‘ oeuvres and more. Can’t make it? How about some raffle tickets for a Michael Kors purse and wristlet."
