Ron Fleming was honored by the Ohio School Boards Association for 25 years of service to the Ada School Board. He is also a member of the Apollo Board. Fleming, a veteran, was recognized on Sunday, Veterans Day, at the Columbus Convention Center during the OSBA State Conference.

Kiwanis annual dinner fundraiser Thursday

The Ada Kiwanis Club will hold its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Ada High School cafeteria.

Club members will serve all-you-can spaghetti, salad, bread sticks and drinks. 

Cannoli will be available for an added cost. One may eat-in or carry-out.

Advance sale tickets are $7 each, with children under 10 free. Tickets at the door will be $8. Advance sale tickets are available from Kiwanis Club members.

The Ada Kiwanis Club is its 94th year, being chartered in 1924. 

Proceeds from the event will benefit the club’s community service projects.

BEREA — Heidelberg scored 22 third quarter points to break open a tight game and posted a 49-17 victory over Ohio Northern in the eighth annual Bendekovic Bowl on a cold and blustery Saturday afternoon at Hoernemann Stadium.

The Polar Bears end their season 5-5 overall and are 4-5 in the Ohio Athletic conference. Despite the loss, ONU clinched an upper division finish in the OAC for the 22nd time in the past 23 seasons.

The Student Princes end their season with an identical 5-5 overall mark and 4-5 OAC record.

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — Senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) and classmate Spencer Schulze (St. Henry) earned All-Great Lakes Region honors Saturday afternoon, guiding the Ohio Northern men's cross country team to a 10th-place effort in a highly-competitive, 38-team field at the 2018 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional held at Blue River Memorial Park.

"The Polar Bears are 97-29 overall this season.

ONU has now finished among the top-10 teams in the region for 15 consecutive seasons.

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — Freshman Elizabeth Whitmore  wound up 32nd overall to capture All-Great Lakes Region honors, guiding the Ohio Northern women's cross country program to a top-10 team finish at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regionals held in Shelbyville, Ind. on Saturday. The Polar Bears (94-30 overall) claimed 10th place in a 33-team field with 297 team points in the 6k championship event. 

ALLIANCE — Junior Seth and sophomore Cash Thompson each won weight class titles to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team at its season-opening Mount Union Invitational on Saturday.

The Polar Bears finished fourth of nine teams overall but the team was first of among Division III schools that participated. NCAA Division II schools finished 1, 2, 3.

Sophomore Schuyler Caprella (Harrod/Allen East) placed fourth with 4-2 records 157 pounds.

The Polar Bears will begin the OAC portion of its schedule on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home match against Otterbein.
