Ada presented their 2012 contest show titled, "Pool: Alive on the Table," in which the band mimics a game of billiards. In this lighthearted and whimsical contest-show design, the instrumentalists wear solid color sweatshirts with large white circles on the front with numbers to represent the solid color pool balls, while the color guard auxiliary, in striped uniforms with striped flags, represent the stripes.
Feature dancer, senior Erica Kier, dressed all in white, is the que ball and battles in a classic good versus evil bout with junior, Anabel Pinkney, who is dressed in black and represents the 8 ball.
The band uses a large brown tarp to frame and outline the concept of a large pool table on the field, with the grass showing through in the middle as a representation of the felt tabletop; six large black plywood circles act as the pockets on the table.
The band's show is comprised of musical selections, Moondance, followed by Channel One Suite. The Ada High School Marching Band is led on the field by senior drum majors Suzy Young and Joseph Peace.
At Revere, Ada was awarded Best Auxiliary in Class C, Best Percussion in Class C and earned the First Place award for Class C small schools at this Ohio Music Education Association adjudicated event.
Ada also participated, amidst the lightning, rain and hail, at the 23rd annual "Eyes With Pride" Columbus Grove Marching Band Invitational, another OMEA sanctioned competition, on Sept. 22.
The Ada High School Marching Band is under the direction of Jonathan Lischak, with Color Guard Director, Amy Schoffner.
The band is comprised of 44 members in grades 8-12, including 10 members who comprise the percussion line and 10 members of the guard. Soloists featured throughout the contest show include drummer Karl Karcher and instrumentalists Maddy Lomax-Vogt, Ian Crabtree, Brittney Archer, Michael Savino, Suzy Young and Joseph Peace.
The Ada High School Marching Band will next compete in Ohio Stadium "The Horseshoe," on the campus of Ohio State University, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.
This will be an exciting opportunity for the band to perform in the legendary home of the Buckeyes. Then, the same day, the band will pack up and travel to Maumee, where they will perform in a competition that evening, with a 7:30 p.m. performance time at Maumee High School.
Member members encourage members of the community to make the trip to either Columbus or Toledo on Oct. 13 to cheer them on as they strive to qualify for state finals.
