The 35-member Ada High School Marching Band and Color Guard earned an Excellent overall rating at the OMEA Sstate finals on Nov. 3 at Welcome Stadium, Dayton.
This included Superior ratings in the areas of music and Color Guard performance.
This year’s baseball-themed competition show titled “Bases Loaded,” is reminiscent of a fun afternoon at the ballpark. Featured soloists are:
• Nathan Hurtig, saxophone,
• Victoria Ross, Trumpet and
• Isaac Spar, Melophone
The No. 12-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team swept John Carroll 25-12, 25-23, 25-13 in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.
The top-seeded Polar Bears (24-5 overall) advance to the semifinals on Thursday where they will host fifth-seeded Baldwin Wallace at 7 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
The eighth-seeded Blue Streaks end their season at 19-11.
Senior Sydney Bapst (Grove City) had 14 kills and hit .452 and senior McKenna Jordan (Toldeo/St. Ursula) had 11 kills and hit .417 to lead the ONU offense.

DELPHOS - Seven Ada football players earned All-Northwest Conference notice in voting recently conducted by the league coaches.
Junior receiver Zac Swaney was voted to the first team all-league offense after leading the NWC in receptions with 62 catches for just under 800 yards and nine touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Brandon Hull was named to the second team all-conference offense. He threw for over 2,100 yards with 20 TDs, and rushed for just over 1,000 yards with 12 TDs to lead the league in total offense.
Hull finished second in the NWC with 104 points. He was also voted honorable mention All-NWC as a defensive back.
Ada council approved the hiring a new patrol officer and a construction-maintenance employee on Nov. 5, in addition to several other actions.
Among council action includes the following:
• Hired Victoria Sturgill as a full-time police officer effective Jan. 2, 2020. Her hiring is a result of a vacancy on the department with the resignation of Sgt. Purdy. Sturgill will serve a one-year probation period at $17.70 per hour. She recently graduated from Rhodes State College with an associate’s degree in law enforcement. She is also a graduate of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.
