The Village Voice: 2014 recycling calendars are available

The long awaited 2014 Waste Management recycling calendars have arrived in the Village Water Office.

Residents who have their refuse collected by Waste Management as a part of the Village contract also have recycling collection available to them. As in the past, the recycling is collected every other week, whereas the refuse is collected every week. Many residents have come to rely on the calendars, which are printed and sent to the Village by Waste Management each year.

And now introducing the Bulldogs

Elda Kirkland, 1920-2014

Elda C. Kirkland, 93, died on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 at 3:18 a.m. at Otterbein- Cridersville in Cridersville, Ohio.

She was born on June 25, 1920, in Toledo, Ohio to Benjamin F. and Maude I. (Roberts) Scofield and they preceded her in death. On June 18, 1949, she married Dale T. Kirkland and he preceded her in death on April 28, 1987.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Brockport United Methodist Church, Brockport, N.Y. and formerly of the Collingwood United Methodist Church, Toledo.
Surviving are a son, David (Doris) Kirkland of Franklin; a daughter, Cathy (Jonathan) Smalley of Ada; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Here are some of the announcements from the Ada school website pertaining to rescheulded events:

JUNIORS & SENIORS: The Lima News and Bluffton University are sponsoring the Leaders of Tomorrow program. All nominees will be recognized in a special section of the Lima News and invited to attend an awards recognition banquet! The 10 finalists and top honoree will receive special awards! Each school can nominate up to 3 juniors and 3 seniors. Apply by Jan. 31.

University's entrepreneurship program among finalists for national award

Ohio Northern University was one of four finalists for a United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) Outstanding Specialty Entrepreneurship Program Award and was recognized at the USASBE annual conference in Fort Worth, Texas.

ONU made the top four from more than 50 nominations. Tammy Schakett, assistant professor of entrepreneurship at the Dicke College of Business Administration, attended the conference and nominated ONU. The three other finalists were the University of Maryland, University of Texas and University of Florida.
