No. 17 women's basketball picks up eighth straight win with 66-62 victory at Denison

The No.17 Ohio Northern women's basketball team won their eighth game in a row with a 66-62 road victory at Denison on Saturday afternoon at Livingston Gymnasium.

With the win, the Polar Bears are now 9-1 on the season, while the Big Red fall to 5-4.

Junior Cenzie Yoder led the Polar Bears with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting.

Senior Joanna Snyder also scored in double figures with 13 points.

ONU found themselves ahead 60-49 with 7:29 remaining.

But the Big Red responded with a 7-0 run to make it 60-56 with 4:15 left.

ONU would put an end to the run on a layup by freshman Brooke Espenschied, expanding their lead to 62-56.

No. 17 men's wrestling finishes seventh at Midwest Classic

The No. 17 Ohio Northern men's wrestling team had five wrestlers place in the top eight, as the Polar Bears finished seventh of 26 teams at the Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis.

ONU finished with 72.5 points.

Newberry (S.C.) won the tournament with 159.5 points, Upper Iowa finished second with 118 points and Findlay was third with 110.

The Polar Bears were the finish was the best out of any Division III school in the tournament.

Senior Kyle Kwiat led ONU, notching a second place finish at 174 pounds.

Kwiat suffered his first defeat of the season in the finals, by a 3-2 decision to Mike Williams of UNC-Pembroke.

Morgan Dumbaugh becomes 10th member of 1,000 point club as no. 17 women's basketball tops Muskingum

Senior Morgan Dumbaugh notched her 1,000th career point as the No. 17 Ohio Northern women's basketball team defeated Muskingum Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears, who have seven games in a row all by at least 15 points, are now 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in the OAC, while the Muskies  fall to 3-6, 0-4.

Dumbaugh notched point number 1,000 with 5:47 to go on a free throw.

"This is a great accomplishment," Daumbaugh said. "I have worked hard for this. But this is a team honor, as my teammates have done so much for me to get here."

Team Stars & Stripes to battle Mexican All-Stars Saturday at 1 pm; live stats and video available online

Live stats and video will be available for fans Saturday afternoon, Dec. 15, as Team Stars & Stripes will battle a team of Mexican collegiate all-stars in the fourth annual Tazon de Estrellas fgootball game at 1 pm (EST) at Tec de Monterrey-Guadalajara's Fortazleza Azul (Blue Fortress).

A total of 49 seniors representing 26 NCAA Division III schools arrived in Guadalajara on Sunday and will play the Mexican CONADEIP all-stars.

Bascom named D3soccer.com Forward of the Year; Matejka named to third team

Senior Nate Bascom was named D3soccer.com Forward of the Year in voting conducted by D3soccer.com, sports information directors and coaches.

Bascom was also named to the First Team.

Senior midfielder Chris Matejka was chosen to the Third Team.

Bascom posted a record breaking season, notching 18 assists and 54 points, both new school records.

He also scored 18 goals on the season and was Capital One Academic All-American of the Year.

Bascom concludes his career as ONU's all time points leader with 155 and all-time assists leader with 43.
