Ada is well represented in this year's Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame induction. Arden "Stretch" Roberson will be inducted as will the 1978 Ada High School girls' basketball team, winner of a state basketball title.
The third annual Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be Saturday, May 18, at Upper Scioto Valley High School, dinner will served at 6 p.m.
This year's inductees are Thad Gardner, Arden "Stretch" Roberson, Beth Elwood, Tony Osbun, Pete Brunow, and Lea Ann (Mullins) Carroll.
Gardner was well known and state wide respected sports reporter for almost 50 years for The Kenton Times. He was inducted into the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Hall of Fame in 1991. Thad died in 2004.
Roberson was a 1943 graduate of Ada High School. He was a successful coach at the high school and collegiate level coaching basketball and football. When Stretch retired he was the winningest coach in ONU's history. He has been inducted into the ONU Hall of Fame and the current football field is named in his honor.
Elwood had a career record of 402 -75, won 15 BVC Championships, 8 District Championships, and was State Runner-up in 1984. She was elected into the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1998.
Osbun was a 1977 Kenton graduate who played football for the University Of Michigan. He played on the Wolverines 1980 Big 10 Championship team. He signed with the New York Giants in 1982, in 1984 played with the USFL Michigan Panthers and played for the USFL New Jersey Generals in 1985. He presently is an assistant coach for Kenton High School.
Brunow coached football for 26 seasons at Hardin Northern. He enjoyed a 221-70 record, won 9 BVC Championships, was the DVI 2002 State Runner-up, and won the DVI 2004 State Championship.
Mullins, an Upper Scioto Valley graduate was a three-time All-Ohioan and Class A Player of the Year as a Senior in 1985. She scored 2127 career points in high school with a high point mark of 59 points. She attended Rio Grande College and was a four-time NAIA All-American. She lead the nation in free throw shooting as a senior, 189-204 for a 92.9 percentage. She also scored 2179 points in her college career.
This year's team award recognition is going to the 1978 Ada Girls Basketball team who has the distinction of being Hardin County's very first state championship team.
