Hartsel sweeps breaststroke events to lead Women's Swimming & Diving in 2012-13 opening meet at John Carroll

Junior Jennifer Hartsel swept the breaststroke events to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team in a season-opening 141-139 loss at John Carroll Saturday afternoon at the Don Shula Sports Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conferencem while the Blue Streaks improve to 1-0, 1-0.

Ohio Northern won nine of the 16 events, but John Carroll used its advantage in depth to post the victory as ONU was swimming without six of its regulars, who missed the meet for various reasons.

Men's Swimming & Diving opens 2012-13 campaign with 204-75 victory at John Carroll

Seniors Drew Keriazes, junior Jordan Breitigam and sophomore Brian Heilbronner each won three events to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team to a 204-75 victory at John Carroll in the 2012-13 opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at the Don Shula Sports Center.

The Polar Bears won 12 of the 16 events to improve to 1-0 overall and are 1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks fall to 0-1, 0-1.

The victory extends Ohio Northern's streak of consecutive OAC regular season dual meet wins to 26.

Keriazes won the 100 breast in 1:00.31 and won the 200 breast in 2:15.38.

Steinbrunner, Weaver lead Women's Cross Country to school record third consecutive OAC Championships title

 Seniors All-American Alison Steinbrunner and Lydia Weaver finished 1-2 to lead No. 34-ranked Ohio Northern to the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Championships title Saturday afternoon at the Wilmington Cross Country Course.

The Polar Bears (80-22 overall) won the team title with 52 points, edging Mount Union (62 points) and John Carroll (72 points) for the crown.

Steinbrunner had a record-setting afternoon as well, winning her OAC-record fourth consecutive individual title.

She won the event by a full 42 seconds in 22:12 for the 6,000-meter course.

Ross scores four times as No. 7 Men's Soccer finishes OAC Regular Season a perfect 9-0

Freshman Keegan Ross became the fourth player in Ohio Northern men's soccer history to score four goals as the No. 7 Ohio Northern men's soccer team topped Muskingum 5-0 Saturday night.

The Polar Bears finish the regular season with a 18-2 mark and a perfect 9-0 in the OAC, while the Muskies fall to 5-11-3, 2-7.

ONU has now won 18 straight OAC matches and is unbeaten in their last 23.

Ross capped off a phenomonial week in which he scored seven goals.

In addition to his four goals, Ross had a hat trick on Wednesday in Northern's 3-1 win over Wilmington.

Here's AEP's projection on the area concerning Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy is bearing down on the mid-Atlantic region and will make landfall this evening in New Jersey. Historic impacts are expected with damaging winds, flooding, life-threatening storm surges and widespread power outages.

For AEP customers...the main impacts will be high winds for AEP Ohio and crippling amounts of heavy wet snow for the mountains of Kentucky Power & APCo.  At 5 am Monday...Sandy was located 285 miles east of Cape Hatteras, N.C.  Maximum sustained winds were 85 mph and she was moving north at 15 mph.

Ada Tile Company - 1919

Ada was once known for its clay tile company. Here's a post card showing the company. The wording, difficult to read states: 'ADA CLAY CO., ADA, O. DRAIN TILE SIZES 3 1/2 INCHES TO 24 INCHES.

The flip side reveals this was a Christmas and new year's greeting from the company. This particular card was mailed to a customer in Dola on Dec. 23, 1919.
